What is Worth Choosing

The challenge and delight of visiting 3:16 Bakery Shop is choosing from its vast array of specialty baked goods, coffee, and frozen desserts. However, for a truly representative experience of this San Juan Capistrano gem, a few key categories and items stand out as absolute must-tries, showcasing the shop’s unique co-op model and commitment to quality.

Firstly, the Artisan Baking section offers a level of freshness and craftsmanship that is the foundation of the shop’s identity. It is highly recommended to try one of the Breads Made Fresh To Order, such as the classic Sourdough Boule or the versatile French Baguette. For something sweeter, look toward the Danishes and pastries, which feature unique items like Baby Alligators (a type of puff pastry turnover) and the variety of Croissants and Muffins. The fact that customers were "bummed" to miss out on the pre-order coffee cake speaks to the high demand and quality of these signature baked items. Additionally, those with dietary restrictions should note the availability of gluten-free cookies, particularly the "absolutely wonderful" double-chocolate cookies, ensuring an inclusive and delightful treat for everyone.

Secondly, the Frozen Treats are an essential component of the 3:16 experience, perfectly timed for a midday or after-dinner dessert stop in the California heat. Patrons should take advantage of the staff’s willingness to offer samples and try the Gelato or Frozen Yogurt. Reviewers specifically called out the delicious pistachio gelato and good quality yogurt. The experience is customizable, allowing you to choose your treat with a variety of toppings and serving vessels like a Waffle Cone or Waffle Bowl. The small size of the shop belies the depth of its dessert menu, making it a go-to spot for a high-quality, authentic cold treat, regardless of whether you are craving ice cream or frozen yogurt.

Finally, no visit is complete without sampling the sophisticated Coffee and espresso menu. The use of premium Lavazza beans ensures a superior cup, whether you opt for a simple, bold Caffè Americano or a rich, specialty Caramel Macchiato. The menu is robust, featuring specialty creations like the energizing Depth Charger (likely a strong double shot of espresso added to a brewed coffee) and seasonal favorites like the Pumpkin Spice or the trendy Matcha Green Tea latte. Pairing a freshly baked pastry or an artisan roll with a meticulously crafted hot or iced coffee from this full-service bar is the ideal way to fully appreciate the combined offerings of this unique, cozy co-op bakery in San Juan Capistrano.

This is a little shop packed with different options, even with seating inside as well as outside. There were cookies and other pastries, frozen yogurt and toppings and gelato. There’s not a ton of flavors but something for everyone. They also are kind to let you taste a flavor if you’re not sure which flavor to choose. The later it got, the more crowded it got. The pistachio gelato and yogurt were good as well as the cookies. It’s somewhere we’d return for desserts. There is a coffee cake that you have to order ahead of time so we were bummed.

Cool little spot! Get your gelato or your coffee or any baked goodies! We had two coffees, we just wanted to enjoy the walk through all the shops around the area.Staff was very kind and welcoming. There is inside seating available. When it comes to parking, because it is kind of a down town area, the only parking available is the public paid parking, plenty of those in this area. Usually around $4 for 2 hours. I did see one for $10 lol.

Ham and cheese croissants are the best, and the iced mocha was fabulous — truly the best in all of Old Town Capistrano! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with a family-friendly vibe, sweet & lovely music, and a dog-friendly patio and indoor area that’s quiet and relaxing They offer gelato, ice cream, chips, cakes, pastries, and specialty coffees (hot or iced), plus mugs to purchase. Indoor and outdoor seating both make it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy. I’ll go back for the ham and cheese croissant again soon!

Overpriced and not worth it. Do not recommend. $3.50 for a single shot of espresso. $6 for a scone. The small cappuccino is about the size of a Starbucks grande, but with only a single shot of espresso so it was basically all milk. As far as I know there wasn’t a smaller size than a small. Blueberry scone was dry and powdery. Not impressed.

Spotted this place walking from the Mission to Los Rios St. and had to get some after dinner Gelato. Great service and gelato, we had the Peanut Butter Cup and my wife had the Dairy free Raspberry. 2 single scoops for $11. Tasted great, but of course small portions and tiny spoons 😁
