About and visit notes
In the heart of the Bronx's renowned Arthur Avenue, a neighborhood celebrated for its authentic Italian-American culture, stands Artuso Pastry Shop. This bakery is a local institution, a place that has been serving the community for generations and has become a go-to spot for an array of delicious Italian pastries. For many residents, visiting Artuso is a tradition, whether for a special occasion or simply to indulge in a sweet treat. The shop is well-known for its large selection of pastries, all of which are a testament to classic Italian baking techniques. Its presence on Arthur Avenue, a destination for food lovers from all over New York, gives it a special place in the borough's culinary landscape. This isn't just a place to buy desserts; it's a place that embodies a piece of local history and flavor. The bakery's reputation is built on its delicious products and a long-standing history of being a reliable source for high-quality baked goods for the local community.
The core of what makes Artuso Pastry Shop a beloved local spot is the quality and variety of its in-store offerings. As one enthusiastic customer noted, all the pastries at Artuso are "DELICIOUS," and the bakery has a "large selection" at "very reasonably priced" rates. This feedback highlights the two main draws of the shop: great taste and good value. The customer specifically called out their favorites, including rainbow cookies, cannoli, and tres leches, which are all staple items that have earned the bakery a loyal following. These items are the backbone of the business and what keeps many customers returning to the shop's physical location. The bakery’s ability to consistently produce these popular items with high quality is what has cemented its status as one of the favorite bakeries on Arthur Avenue. For locals and visitors alike, the in-store experience of choosing from a wide variety of freshly made pastries is a key part of the Artuso charm, making it a must-visit destination for anyone with a sweet tooth.
However, like any business, especially one that has a long history, not every customer experience is perfect. While their in-store pastries are widely praised, a review concerning an online order for a traditional seasonal item, the Pizza Rustica, brought to light some significant issues. A customer reported receiving a pie that was dry, lacked the promised ingredients (prosciutto), and was met with what they considered "awful customer service" when they sought a refund. The bakery's policy on no refunds for taste, preference, or dislikes was cited in a response the customer found to be unhelpful and dismissive. This kind of feedback, particularly regarding online sales and customer service, is important for potential customers to be aware of. It suggests a potential disconnect between the quality of the in-store, ready-made items and the handling of custom or seasonal online orders. While the pastries in the shop are highly regarded, experiences with specialized items and customer support may vary. This provides a more balanced and factual view of the business, encompassing both its strong points and areas that could be improved.

ARTUSO SPOILS EASTERI ordered a traditional Pizza Rustica for Easter from Artuso online for $29.95, plus shipping = $34.95. I received it and opened the box revealing a very small pie which didn't bother me as ingredients, especially prosciutto are expensive. I cut a slice out of the pie. Where was the prosciutto? Nowhere. Just some tiny meat flakes spread few and far between leaving me with a plain ricotta pie, sans meat. There were also flecks of green in the pie. Damned if I knew what those were. The final straw was the moisture-challenged texture of the the filling which was bereft of any type of grated cheese. Dry. I emailed the folks at Artuso about the problem and was basically told, 'too bad'. They cheerfully declined a refund. Here's a snippet of their communication:"We regret that it didn't meet your expectations. As noted in our store policy, which is available on our website, we are unable to offer refunds for products based on individual tastes, preferences, or dislikes. We recognize that everyone's palate is different, and while many enjoy this seasonal item, we understand it may not be for everyone."The description on the site reads: " Italian meat pie". Should have been labled "Meat flavored" like any other bogus food that's trying to squeak by as the real thing.Wasn't even meat-flavored.I've had pizza rustica from bakeries everywhere. Some had lots of meat, some had little amounts. This is the first time I witnessed one with no meat.Meanwhile, it was Easter Sunday and the local bakeries were all out.I would give Artuso zero stars if I could for misrepresentation of product and awful customer service.DO BETTER, ARTUSO'S
Apr 23 · Patrick CarellaMy partner and I have been a regular here for months now. In the mornings, we get their coffee (available hot and iced!!!) and pastries. Sometimes, in the afternoon, we get their choco milkshake. Our favorite pastries includes croissants, mini canolis, tiramisu, and cherry cheese or guava danish.Folks behind the counter are helpful. The owner is friendly.Service is adequately fast. Coffee and the pastries are affordable. While in their busy hour, the line can get long, we don't mind waiting because being inside the store itself is exciting (looking at colorful, tasty looking pastries and cookies & feeling like you are part of history of Little Italy in the Bronx). We appreciate Artuso Pastry Shop 🌹
May 5 · Natta AThe cake itself is incredibly moist and full of flavor really well done on the texture and taste. I also love the fact that it has raisins; they add a nice touch and some extra character to the cake. However, the frosting is a bit too overpowering. It’s very sweet, which masks the cream cheese flavor that I was expecting. The second layer of frosting and the outer coating felt like too much, and it threw off the overall balance. If the frosting had a more subtle sweetness and a stronger cream cheese presence, it would really elevate the entire cake. With a few tweaks, this could be amazing!
Jul 12 · Honey monroeArtuso’s has been the source of the best cakes for my family’s birthdays. They are right around the corner in Little Italy, and the way they present the cakes are marvelous. Here are some of the cakes they made for my family.
