About and visit notes

D'Andrews Bakery & Cafe stands out as a true culinary highlight in the heart of downtown Nashville, offering a sophisticated fusion of modern French pastry techniques and classical Southern flavors. Founded in 2018 by Executive Chef and owner David Andrews, a native Nashvillian, this establishment is more than just a bakery—it's a destination for high-quality, made-from-scratch food that has garnered national attention, including a prestigious James Beard Award semifinalist nomination for Outstanding Bakery.

Chef Andrews’ story is one of a dedicated return to his roots, bringing world-class expertise back to Music City. After attending the Institute of Culinary Education and spending 13 formative years honing his craft in demanding, high-caliber kitchens in New York City—including a three-and-a-half-year tenure at the renowned three-star Gotham Bar & Grill and serving as Executive Chef at the Kimberly Hotel—he returned home to fulfill his dream. D'Andrews Bakery & Cafe embodies this journey, combining the precision of French patisserie with the warmth and genuine hospitality Tennessee locals expect. Every element of the menu, from the flakiest croissants to the savory focaccia for their gourmet sandwiches, is prepared in-house daily. This dedication to quality and freshness is what sets D'Andrews apart in Nashville's bustling food scene.

Whether you're starting your day with a perfectly brewed coffee and a decadent pastry, meeting a client for a fresh lunch, or simply indulging in an afternoon treat, D'Andrews provides an elevated yet inviting experience for locals, downtown workers, and Tennessee visitors alike. The commitment to creating everything from scratch—including house-roasted meats, sauces, dressings, jams, and syrups—ensures a superior taste that you can’t find just anywhere.

The atmosphere itself is a perfect blend of a cozy café and a bustling professional kitchen, featuring an open layout that allows guests to witness the dedication of the pastry team as they laminate croissant dough, glaze entremets, and craft brioche. This transparency reinforces the bakery's mission as a 100% from-scratch operation.

The menu selection is vast and designed to satisfy all tastes, transitioning seamlessly from rich breakfast options to hearty lunch fare. The breakfast sandwiches, built on house-made focaccia bread, have been highly praised by customers. Options like the Braised Short Rib Sandwich and the classic Bacon, Egg & Cheese Sandwich are popular morning choices. For lunch, the Chicken & Avocado Sandwich and the unique Pimento Grilled Cheese offer gourmet twists on classic comfort food. Of course, the pastries remain the star, with items like the D'onut (a sugared brioche donut filled with Tahitian vanilla bean pastry cream) and the Pecan Cinnamon Bun often cited as must-try local favorites.

D’Andrews Bakery & Café is an absolute treat in Nashville! I stopped in for a Pecan Cinnamon Bun and an iced latte, and both were fantastic. The Pecan Cinnamon Bun was fresh, perfectly baked, with just the right balance of sweetness and crunch—truly one of the best I’ve ever had. The iced latte was smooth, rich, and refreshing, the perfect complement to the pastry. On top of the great food and drinks, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff is welcoming and attentive. Whether you’re looking for a quick coffee, a pastry to start your day, or a cozy spot to relax, this place is worth the visit. I’ll definitely be back to try more of their menu!

Visited the bakery around 11 on a Wednesday morning. There was a line, and many seats taken, but everything moved relatively quickly. I got a breakfast sandwich - may have been the best I’ve ever had - everything about the sandwich tasted fresh. We also tried a slice of cake and it was also heavenly. Highly recommend!

When you get here, be ready to wait in a long lane. I'm not the biggest coffee person, but the iced latte was decent. My personal favorite was for sure Fuzzy popping peach, strong second strawberry chouquee. The donut was way too sweet in my opinion.

The pastries look so delicious and they are as well. I had the Dubai Chocolate Croissant and it is so light and sweet. I would highly recommend going if you want to treat yourself to a delicious pastry. Staff is also very sweet. Love the aesthetic of this place.

Walk by this spot almost daily and I wish I would have tried it sooner. You can tell they take real pride in their food, everything is prepared fresh. Ive now tried the bacon, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich, the fried chicken breakfast sandwich, the house coffee and several pastries. All have been excellent. Fresh and delicious, no shipped in microwaved stuff. It is a a little pricier than say a large coffee chain, but such better food it's worth it. Would definitely recommend if you live / work downtown.
