Paid over $30 for a forgettable breakfast for one person:$20 - Average breakfast burrito. Upmarket price was not justified in terms of size, quality, or flavor.$4.50 - Plain drip coffee$4.9 - 20% Mandatory surprise auto gratuityPlus taxMy burrito was brought out in a timely manner but my coffee came 20 minutes later after checking with staff multiple times. So much for the premium gratuity for a counter order cafe. The place did have a charming industrial vibe to it with a nice patio.

About and visit notes
Gjusta is a cornerstone of the West Los Angeles culinary scene, transcending the definition of a mere bakery to function as a bustling, multi-faceted gourmet food haven. Located in the heart of Venice, Gjusta combines the meticulous craft of an artisan bakery with the comprehensive offerings of a full-service deli, a restaurant, a caterer, and a specialty grocery store. This institution has become a must-visit destination for California food enthusiasts seeking house-cured and smoked fish, masterfully baked bread, prepared foods, and an incredible array of specialty meats and cheeses. It represents the quintessential Venice experience: high-quality, artisanal food served in a distinctively rustic, industrial-chic setting.
Unlike typical bakeries, Gjusta provides a complete culinary ecosystem. Their in-house production spans everything from baking over a dozen types of bread—including their iconic Sourdough Loaf and large Miche—to smoking their own fish and preparing a vast menu of breakfast, lunch, and packaged meals. This commitment to house-made quality across numerous categories is what truly sets Gjusta apart, establishing it as a dynamic and influential force in the California food landscape. For those in Los Angeles, Gjusta is where you go for both your daily baguette and your weekend smoked fish platter.
While known for its comprehensive nature, the core of the operation remains the bread and pastry program, which supports the entire deli and restaurant menu. Even as customer reviews occasionally point out the high-end pricing and shifts in pastry consistency, the overall vibe and selection keep the crowds coming, drawn by the promise of exceptional, handcrafted goods and a memorable, lively atmosphere.

What is Worth Choosing
When visiting Gjusta, the best experience lies in embracing their multi-departmental expertise. It is worth choosing items that showcase the bakery's dual mastery of baking and charcuterie/curing, making it a truly unique Los Angeles food spot.
Start with the foundation: a loaf of the famous Sourdough Loaf or the denser, rustic Miche. These are arguably the highest-quality staples available and are essential for recreating the Gjusta experience at home. To complement the bread, you should try a selection from the House Cured & Smoked Fish counter, such as the Lox or Trout, which are prepared in-house and renowned for their fresh, deep flavor profiles. Pairing a half-pound of Herb Gravlox with a fresh Bagel is a quintessential Gjusta order.
For a complete, ready-to-eat meal, choose one of their signature, substantial sandwiches like the Pastrami Sandwich or the complex Brisket Banh Mi, which expertly utilize their house-baked bread and cured meats. Finally, for an indulgent sweet treat, select a pastry that holds up well, such as the Chocolate Basque Cheesecake or the traditional Cinnamon Roll. While the cold brew remains a consistent highlight, be prepared for a premium price point, acknowledging that you are paying for the quality, variety, and the overall unique gourmet experience Gjusta provides in the heart of Venice.

I lived in Venice before the pandemic, and remember Gjusta having the most incredible cold brew and pastries. 5+ years later, only the cold brew holds up. The pastries are fine, but they lack the crispy flakiness that separates a great pastry from a good one. The flies have also become a big problem out back. Still love Gjusta, but some of the shine has definitely worn off. Where can a man get a great pastry in LA??
Sep 6 · Luke KingmaA lot of great variety in the menu! Went with a group of 5 and we all got different things and really liked them. Everything from breakfast burritos to steak and eggs to sandwiches. I went with the Salmon Roe Bagel and would definitely eat again. Really flavorful and lots of cream cheese. My one note is that it gets busy and you have to find your own table, so just be aware of everything going on with the process of ordering.
May 17 · EvanHad such a good fish dip toast here this morning and drip coffee. I was initially confused by the setup inside since there were two ordering counters. The staff were super kind and helpful explaining how to order. The outdoor patio is huge and they brought my coffee and food out so quickly !! I loved the design inside and outdoor ambiance. The fish toast was heaven. An abundance of protein atop a fresh grainy toast. I bought cardamom walnut shortbread cookies to dip in my coffee which were also fabulous. I’ll definitely be back !! Love their sister operation Gjelina.
