HOLEY CRAP these are incredible donuts. Who knew the Hawaiian superfood taro could be so delicious? I will most definitely be coming back here for more, even their basic donut offering, the “hot single” is to die for. All donuts are fresh made to order, highly recommend eating them hot. The flavors are orgasmic.

About and visit notes
Introduction / Overview
California’s dynamic food scene is constantly pushing boundaries, and for donut enthusiasts across the Golden State, the arrival of Holey Grail Donuts from the shores of Kauai, Hawaii, was a truly exciting event. Located right here in Los Angeles’ charming Larchmont Village, Holey Grail Donuts has brought a completely fresh and innovative approach to a classic treat. It’s more than just a donut shop; it’s a culinary crusade built on community, sustainability, and a unique, unforgettable flavor profile.
What sets Holey Grail apart is its core ingredient: taro. Using the Hawaiian superfood taro as the base for their dough, these artisans have created a completely plant-based donut experience that is fried fresh, to-order, in coconut oil. This process results in a distinct texture, described by fans as a delightful cross between a mochi and a traditional cake donut, with a subtle, earthy sweetness. The shop is celebrated for its commitment to high-quality, real ingredients, incorporating local California and Hawaiian agriculture, and featuring a weekly rotating menu of unique, seasonal flavors that ensures there is always something new and exciting to discover.
Originating as a popular 'Sunday Ritual' from a tiny red trailer in Hanalei, Kauai, the move to a storefront on the mainland in Larchmont Village has allowed the brand to expand its reach, captivating Angelenos with its artisan, made-to-order indulgence. If you are in the Los Angeles area looking for a premium, ethical, and unique donut and coffee experience, Holey Grail Donuts is absolutely worth the pilgrimage.

What is Worth Choosing
For Californians seeking a truly distinctive and satisfying treat, Holey Grail Donuts offers an experience that transcends the standard fried dough. The core reason to choose Holey Grail is the unique taro-based, made-to-order donut experience. Unlike conventional donuts that can sit for hours, these arrive hot, fresh, and perfectly crispy on the outside with that signature, slightly chewy taro interior. The lightness of the taro dough is an excellent counterpoint to the rich, high-quality, and inventive toppings.
A great starting point for first-timers is the Original Sin donut, which features Hawaiian vanilla bean and a salted maple glaze—it perfectly showcases the taro dough's flavor. For those seeking a unique flavor adventure, try the Hail Mary with cardamom and rose, or a seasonal offering like the Wild Guava or Lilikoi to experience the shop's tropical roots and commitment to seasonal, real fruit ingredients. Don't forget the beverages; the specialty iced lattes, often featuring macadamia nut milk, are a fantastic pairing. The coffee itself is noted for its quality and flavor, providing a "great coffee" experience that complements the sweetness of the donuts without overwhelming them.
Furthermore, for those following a plant-based diet or looking for gluten-free options, Holey Grail Donuts is a sanctuary. As one of the premier vegan and nearly all-gluten-free donut shops in Los Angeles, you can indulge with confidence in a high-quality product made with integrity and a focus on sustainability. The fact that their donuts are made with taro and fried in Fera fruit oil, rather than traditional flour and less ethical oils, makes the indulgence one you can feel better about.
In essence, choosing Holey Grail Donuts is choosing an artisan, ethical, and fresh culinary moment—a "better donut" experience rooted in Hawaiian tradition and flavored with the best of California's local food sourcing.

Not too sweet—just right. These donuts are fresh, fluffy, and absolutely delicious. I especially love that they use taro as the base it gives the donuts a subtle earthy flavor and naturally soft texture that makes them stand out from the usual. The variety of flavors is thoughtfully curated, so there’s something for everyone depending on your mood or craving. My favorite was the chocolate crunch, perfectly crispy on the outside, rich and satisfying inside. Will definitely be back for more!
May 26 · iEight おいしい RestaurantWe stumbled upon this by accident and I don’t know if I’ve ever been so glad to stumble upon anything ever. You need to be prepared for a wait as every donut is made to order and that’s why when you get them they are still hot from the fryer, which is OMG GOOD. Even though there are other donut shops I like in LA, their styles are very different and if I was forced to choose just one this might now be my favorite. Make sure you try the Lilikoi with passionfruit and the original. I love that they have different flavors all the time!
Aug 12 · Kirsten Alana Photographyamazing! they make every order fresh so expect to wait a few mins but that is absolutely what makes them amazing. fresh and warm , not super sweet, and they have a great texture because they are fried in coconut oil. Unlike other cheap oils other shops use to fry doughnuts, these taste light and you dont leave you feeling heavy and gross after eating. Best doughnuts ever!!
Mar 19 · V. M.Ok so you need to try these donuts. They are the perfect size, they don’t make you feel terrible, and they’re plant based! My favorite ones are Ricky Martinez and the coconut Hawaiian (?) one. The only difference is that this location does not have seating so I prefer the Santa Monica one a little more. But larchmont is a wonderful place to walk around, so grab a donut and a coffee and take a stroll!
