About and visit notes
In the vibrant, food-centric landscape of Philadelphia, a few local businesses rise above the noise to become true community staples. Among them is Kismet Bagels, and its first brick-and-mortar shop in the trendy Fishtown neighborhood stands as a testament to the power of a great idea meeting a genuine need. The name “Kismet,” meaning destiny or fate, is a perfect fit for this business, which was truly “meant to be.”
The story of Kismet Bagels is a uniquely modern Philadelphia tale. Co-founders, and childhood crushes, Jacob and Alexandra Cohen began their bagel-making journey in their rowhome kitchen in early 2020, during the initial weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic. What started as a hobby to fill empty schedules quickly evolved into an obsession. Their meticulously crafted bagels—renowned for a crispy exterior and fluffy interior, achieved through a long fermentation technique—first found an audience as a charitable endeavor. The Cohens began selling their homemade batches to neighbors and donating the proceeds to local organizations like Project Home, which assists those experiencing homelessness in Philadelphia.
This commitment to community and consistent quality swiftly catapulted Kismet from a successful pop-up and wholesale operation to one of the city's most beloved local brands. The Fishtown café, which officially opened its doors, marked a major milestone, providing a permanent home for their acclaimed bagels, house-made schmears, and inventive sandwiches. Kismet Bagels isn't just a place for breakfast or lunch; it's a shining example of a local business built on integrity, heart, and, of course, absolutely delicious food.
The flagship brick-and-mortar location of Kismet Bagels is ideally situated in the heart of one of Philadelphia's most dynamic neighborhoods, making it a convenient stop for locals and visitors alike. Whether you're commuting, enjoying a weekend stroll, or making a quick visit, the shop is easy to reach.
The address is: 113 E Girard Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19125, USA.
Fishtown is known for its accessibility via public transit. The shop is located just minutes from the Girard stop on the Market-Frankford Line (the El), making it a simple journey for anyone coming from other parts of the city. For those who prefer to drive, the neighborhood provides a mix of free and paid street parking options, though it's always advisable to allow time for parking, especially during peak hours. The primary service model is a quick, efficient visit, offering fast takeout, in-store pickup, and delivery for maximum convenience.

The everything bagel is a local favorite, praised for its generous, consistent distribution of all the classic toppings: sesame seeds, poppy seeds, onion, garlic, and kosher salt.
You should prioritize trying one of their signature sandwiches, particularly The Egg with its zesty, herby zhug sauce, which many customers call one of the best breakfast sandwiches they have ever had. The fact that the shop offers a truly excellent and dedicated VEGAN Egg Sammie and proprietary Vegan Schmear also makes Kismet a clear winner for those with dietary preferences, ensuring everyone can enjoy a high-quality breakfast or lunch.
