Introduction / Overview

For Illinois residents, particularly those in the bustling city of Chicago, M Bakery at 1527 W Lawrence Ave offers a compelling blend of traditional bakery products and surprisingly authentic, high-quality savory Mexican cuisine. This establishment, situated in the 60640 zip code, defies simple categorization by seamlessly combining the roles of a local Panaderia (Mexican Bakery) and a destination for quick, flavorful meals like tacos and quesadillas.

M Bakery is more than just a place to grab a loaf of bread; it is a true neighborhood treasure recognized for its diverse offerings. While the name suggests a focus on baking—and indeed, fresh goods like the traditional Mexican sweet bread 'concha' are available and delicious—the quality of their prepared food, specifically their Mexican Entrees, has earned them high praise from local patrons. Customers have called the chicken quesadillas "one of the best" they have ever had, and the tacos are praised as "super authentic" with spicy, flavorful sauces. This dual identity makes M Bakery a uniquely valuable spot in the Ravenswood/Uptown area for both baked staples and satisfying, affordable meals. The store also functions as a small Bodega, carrying imported and specialized snacks that are difficult to find at larger chain grocery stores, further enhancing its appeal as a convenient, one-stop local destination.

Ate one of the best chicken quesadillas I ever have had! Owner was super kind and came to our table with a smile on his face, great service and I purchased a concha that was delicious. Price for the food was extremely affordable. 10/10 definitely will be back.

Place is a bit dated. Neat Bodega with imported snacks that you probably can't find at a Marianos or Jewels. I usually get a loaf of bread on the weekend and slice it at home for whatever I need during the week, but today I stopped in for tacos. As good as the cart guy I typically go to and his are super authentic al pastor on the spinning roaster with the pineapple on top. Sauces were spicey both green and red. Was pleasantly surprised as Mexican food around Ravenswood is hit and miss. Will def be back when the taco craving comes back. Well sized and priced.

Unfortunately this store is under new management. The food is old, stale and tastes horrible. The bread and pastries are a couple days old. Nothing is fresh. The atmosphere is really depressing. Everything looking dirty inside and unwelcoming. I really hope the new owners take this and turn this place around. The old owners were amazing, the food was 10/10. I wouldn’t feed my dog this food from the new owners. Best wishes.
