About and visit notes
Nestled in the vibrant and diverse neighborhood of Sunnyside, Queens, lies a charming local spot that caters to a specific craving: authentic European baked goods. Nita's European Bakery, located at 40-10 Greenpoint Avenue, offers a taste of traditional pastries and cakes that can transport you across the Atlantic with every bite. The bakery's presence in this part of New York City adds to the rich tapestry of international cuisines available to locals, providing a specialized niche that draws in customers looking for something beyond the typical American fare. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted by a display of meticulously crafted baked goods, a feast for the eyes that promises a delightful culinary experience.
Nita's European Bakery is a place that holds a special place for many in the community, particularly those with a taste for classic European desserts. The visual appeal of the products is a major draw, with pastries that are "yummy looking," as one customer noted. This meticulous attention to presentation speaks to a dedication to traditional baking artistry, where the look and feel of the pastry are just as important as the taste. For a neighborhood as culturally rich as Sunnyside, a bakery like Nita's serves as a cherished reminder of home for many residents and an exciting discovery for others. It’s the kind of local establishment that contributes to the unique character of the community, offering a product that isn't easily found everywhere else in the city.
The bakery's selection is a key part of its identity, offering a variety of products that are distinctly European. For example, a customer highlighted a "big plus" that the bakery offers Dobos cake, a classic Hungarian layered sponge cake that is a rare find in many parts of New York. This particular offering showcases the bakery's commitment to providing an authentic experience. While some customer experiences may vary, with feedback mentioning freshness issues or a taste that didn't quite live up to the "yummy look," the variety and specialization remain a significant draw. It's a place that invites exploration and discovery, encouraging patrons to try new things and find their personal favorites among the assortment of pastries and cakes. The bakery's mission seems to be to bring these traditional flavors to a New York audience, and its product range reflects that ambition.
Despite the mixed reviews on taste and freshness, the concept of Nita's European Bakery remains compelling for locals. The existence of a place dedicated to these specific types of baked goods is a valuable asset to the neighborhood. The reviews also highlight some practical aspects of the business, such as the fact that it is "cash only," which is a good detail for potential customers to know in advance. This is a common characteristic of some smaller, traditional businesses in New York, and the presence of an ATM inside shows that the bakery is aware of this and tries to accommodate its customers. While the service was described as "ok, nothing special," this kind of straightforward approach is often what New Yorkers expect from a no-frills, local spot. The overall experience, while not perfect for every customer, offers a unique alternative to more commercialized bakeries.

Unfortunately we had a bad experience even though they had a good variety of products. We bought a puff pastry with custard cream and it was very soggy and old. We also had a slice of caramel cake, it was very dry. Basically nothing was fresh. Cookies looked good but who knows from when. Everything went to the garbage.
Apr 8 · Estefani PerezThis European Bakery in Sunnyside is a true 💎. The space is super cute. I got a Dobos and some Rugelach. The Dobos (a Hungarian Pastry) is a layered cake with Chocolate Buttercream and Caramel topping. It was 😋. It wasn't overly sweet and the Caramel was crunchy. The Rugelach was the best I ever had. The prices were good. The ladies working there were helpful and friendly. I will definitely be going back to try some of their other pastries. It is 4/2/23, it's been awhile since my first review. I am happy to say that I've been back to try some other pastries, as promised. They are all equally 😋. I had the Savarina the other day and it was amazing. It was big enough to share and it was the best version of a Baba Rum I've ever had. The Cartof is also very good and very rich. I will be visiting this lovely bakery again.
Apr 2 · Vivianne BarrettoSo, when we travel to New York City from Pa, we always stop by and we have no limit, we purchase, and purchase $$$$$$, we stuck-up on delicious desserts 🎂🎂 at this bakery 🥯🧁. We, would you know it, today was a very different situation, our own people, the Romanians treated us with disgust 🥹😌🫠. We are so disappointed ☹️ and no longer will we be coming back. You see, when you travel from afar with young children, they can't always hold it in for hrs and hrs, and when our small child went in, darting for the bathroom 🪥, a bathroom he had used before in the past, was met with stairs, seeing that , I politily asked, "Aveti Baie " my question was interrupted with a disgusting No. So you see, it wasn't that we couldn't use the bathroom this time around, it was the way they treated my small child and myself 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥲🥹.In the end, even-though they have delicious food, it is the people, the ability to distinguish, help, and care for one-another that makes the world go around 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
May 9 · Grigore ElkoFriend of mine told me about this, only 10 minutes from me and never knew it existed. I've only tried a couple of items so far. But I will say with confidence that it has the best raspberry rugelach I've ever had. Sorry, no photo of the rugelach, ate them too fast.
