About and visit notes

For residents across Maryland, Pĕkärä Bakery represents a charming culinary journey to the heart of Europe, conveniently located right here in Baltimore. This small-batch bakery, whose name fittingly means “bakery” in Serbian, is a dedicated champion of old-world, scratch-made baking. Pĕkärä proudly stands out by offering a unique and expansive collection of traditional European-style pastries and artisan breads, encompassing recipes from regions including France, Italy, Germany, Belgium, and, notably, Serbia and the former Yugoslavia.

The philosophy at Pĕkärä is simple yet profound: everything is handmade, baked from scratch, and created with the finest ingredients, completely free of preservatives and additives. This commitment to quality and traditional methods—often described as using just “flour, water, yeast” for their breads—results in products that are both authentic and deeply satisfying. Whether you are craving the flakiness of a French croissant, the density of a rich European cake, or a unique savory strudel, Pĕkärä provides a delightful variety all under one roof. The experience is enhanced by the visual appeal of the treats, displayed invitingly in the gleaming glass cases, ready to transport you with every bite.

Pĕkärä is not just a place for sweets; it offers a comprehensive bakery and cafe experience. I have really been enjoying their pastries and bread. My current favorite is the italian bread, but they are all great in their own way. I love the croissants, danish, and baguettes as well. Most recently I tried their pizza from the new expanded menu, and it was delicious. Perfect amount of char on the crust, a tasty sauce, and quality cheeses. Can’t wait to try a sandwich next time.

First time trying this place. I went here late afternoon and most of the items were already sold out. At first, I thought since its late most of the remaining items might not be fresh nor taste good but I was craving some sweat so went ahead and got a couple of things. I believe i got european cookie, chcolate almond croissant, and a couple of other thungs. To my surprise all of the things i got taste very good and fresh. I will definately be coming back here again. I have to say that the croissant was very well made, soft and flaky with the right amount of chocolate not over empowering.

This place is an absolute gem. We would give it more stars if we could. The proprietor is so kind and is clearly passionate about his work and his ingredients. We tried the gallettes at the Crofton's farmers market and were so impressed we sought out this shop. We are already making plans to come back and bring family and friends.

Stopped by on a whim. Very happy I did so. I got espresso, banana pudding and a cappuccino croissant - all were wonderful. Gentlemen at the counter was very friendly. Was hoping for some baklavaa but they were sold out already - have to take that as a good sign! I will definitely be returning

Truly excellent bread, perfect balance of crusty shell and soft, light crumb inside, even the rye! I can't describe how delicious the carrot cake was, just try it you won't regret it. I am so glad to find this excellent, local, and multicultural bakery! If I lived closer I'd actually go every day
