This place is AMAZING! This was my first time coming to Porto’s and I loved the whole experience. I will say, this place was very busy BUT the lines moved quick and the staff were so nice! I want to give a huge shoutout to Ellie, as soon as I told her that it was my first time here, she recommended some items to try and I ended up loving all of them! She was so kind and helpful and I want to thank her for making my experience so special. I will absolutely be coming back!

About and visit notes
Porto's Bakery and Cafe is more than just a place to grab a quick treat—it is a beloved Southern California institution, and the West Covina location brings the rich, flavorful, and affordable Cuban-inspired menu right to the heart of the San Gabriel Valley. Born from the passion and dream of Rosa Porto, who began her baking business in Cuba to support her family during a difficult time, the bakery’s story is one of tradition, quality, and immigrant success in California.
Since opening its first official storefront in Echo Park in 1976 after the family immigrated to Los Angeles, Porto's has become synonymous with long lines and exceptional value. Today, the family legacy is carried on by Rosa’s children and grandchildren, who uphold her motto that "quality is the number one ingredient in everything we do." This commitment to fresh, high-quality ingredients and authentic recipes is what draws crowds daily to the West Covina location. It’s the perfect place for locals and visitors alike to enjoy a morning coffee and pastry, a satisfying Cuban lunch, or a spectacular cake for any special occasion.
While the famous sweet and savory items—like the world-renowned Cheese Rolls® and Potato Balls®—are the draw, the West Covina cafe experience is also celebrated for its welcoming atmosphere. Customers consistently praise the efficient, though often very busy, staff who work diligently to serve the never-ending stream of patrons. Whether you're a first-timer or a lifelong fan, a visit to Porto's in West Covina is an essential part of the Southern California food experience, offering a slice of Cuban heritage infused with the diverse culinary spirit of Los Angeles.

This location continues the Porto family's tradition of offering a wide array of options—from freshly baked breads and pastries to a full cafe menu—ensuring that every craving, sweet or savory, is met with an authentic and delicious Cuban flair.
The bakery's reputation for its incredible variety and quality has earned it numerous accolades over the years, including being voted Best Bakery in the Southland by the Los Angeles Times. The sheer volume of popular items sold—with millions of Potato Balls and Cheese Rolls sold monthly across all locations—speaks to the bakery’s iconic status in California’s culinary landscape.
For residents in the eastern part of Los Angeles County, the West Covina Porto's is a true local treasure, providing the quality, affordability, and extensive menu that the brand is famous for, without the need to travel to other locations.

Porto’s Bakery in West Covina is my favorite spot for sweets, especially their beautifully decorated birthday cakes. The flavors are always fresh and perfectly balanced. Because the shop is almost always packed, the staff can seem less attentive at times—they’re simply juggling a heavy rush. Despite that, orders are handled efficiently and the quality never slips. If you plan ahead or order online for pickup, you’ll still enjoy excellent service and some of the best cakes around.
Sep 13 · Magdalena SudarmanGreat quality food, fast service and busy. We went on a weekend and the line was long;however, we got in pretty quickly and the cashiers were fast, friendly and efficient. We love the food here, and we try something different every time we come. I love the ice matcha tea latte. My Family’s favorite is their potato meat balls. So many options for desserts. For the first time I also tried their cilantro chicken grilled salad, and I liked it. It was so filling and tasty.
Jul 10 · Janet Arqui. Momtraveler1Visited CA for a weekend vacation and here was the only place we ate. 😂 NO regrets! Drove back to Arizona with pastries to eat for probably 3 more days. Everything I tried has been 10/10. Medianoche sandwich and Cuban sandwich were extremely tasty. The food is light, but still rich in flavor. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Have an idea (or a note in your phone) of what you want before you order because the line moves fast! ✨️✨️
