Introduction / Overview

For New Jersey locals with a craving for authentic Italian baked goods and savory delights, Prato Bakery JC Heights, located at 296 Palisade Ave in Jersey City, offers a slice of Tuscany right in our neighborhood. This establishment is part of a growing family of Prato Bakeries, which opened its doors in Jersey City in 2015 with the unwavering goal of bringing genuine Italian and Tuscan baking traditions to the United States. Named after Prato, the hometown of owner and baker Simone, the bakery prides itself on offering a diverse variety of baked goods, all handmade daily on the premises. Beyond their impressive array of freshly baked items, Prato Bakery also features a cafeteria complete with an Italian espresso machine, ensuring the perfect cappuccino or espresso to accompany your treat. It’s a place where the rich history of Italian pastry-making, from the classic "cantucci" biscuits to the versatile "schiacciata" focaccia, comes alive. While some recent reviews have highlighted concerns regarding the freshness and pricing of certain sandwich items, a significant number of patrons continue to laud the bakery for its delicious desserts, excellent coffee, and the overall quality of its core baked goods, signaling a strong desire for this authentic Italian experience to thrive within the community. As one customer noted, "Finally stopped by this location of Prato Bakery in The Heights. I couldn't stay and eat so I got my order to go. I got a Cornetto Salato and a Mini Bombolone. The Cornetto Salato has prosciutto cotton and fontina cheese on a croissant and that's it. I think it was around $7. Totally worth it. I like simple but good sandwiches. And I treated myself with a mini bombolone. The custard filling was to die for, so yummy."

Nice airy inside with some tables, I would totally stop by again.

I was so excited for Prato to open. The sandwiches look delicious but every time I go in there, it’s empty and they have 1-2 sandwiches out. My sandwiches don’t taste fresh - maybe sitting out too long which isn’t a good feeling when they cost $17! Bread is stale and hard to chew. Meat is starting to harden in the sandwich. The cantucci and other desserts are delicious. Coffee is great. Service is very good. I really want to like Prato because it’s so close to where I live but for now it’s a bit overpriced and doesn’t feel fresh.I don’t want to give up on Prato - please make some changes!

Loved it. It looks as though I'm going to be having a lot of breakfast treats and homemade sandwiches because everything looks good. Today going for the olive focaccia minis. The Nutella one is sin. Coffee, hot chocolate offered along with a Nutella latte.

One word…….CANTUCCI! Prato transports you to a world of Tuscan pastries. From the crunchy yet soft almond cantucci (also known as biscotti), savory sandwiches, to a variety of house made focaccia, your Italian cafe daydream is a sweet treat away.

I visited your establishment today, November 1st, 2024, around 2 PM. I ordered a latte, and honestly, it was the worst I’ve had in a long time. I didn’t have high expectations, just wanted a decent latte. The person who made it seemed to have no idea how to make one properly. Their technique for steaming the milk was very poor. It was like coffee with milk, and not even a good version of that. This seems to be a management issue, as there clearly hasn’t been proper training for the staff. Perhaps I was unlucky and the regular barista wasn’t there. Regardless, if you have someone making coffee, at least ensure they know how to make a decent latte. I’m not talking about latte art, just a drinkable latte.”
