I've no complaints about Safeway Bakery's excellent service and atmosphere. However, the elevation here in Colorado (~7,000 feet) appears to negatively impact its bakery products. At this high altitude, Safeway's "Famous Seven Grain Bread" rises only to 3-3/4 inches. This is half-an-inch lower than the same bread at sea level. See the photos below:(1) The first photo shows that in Monument, Colorado, the bread only rises to 3-3/4" and is lopsided. The loaf is also lower at the left end than the right end.(2) The second photo shows that in Houston, Texas, the bread rises to 4-1/4 inches and both ends of the loaf are equal in height. In Texas, Safeway stores are called Randall’s stores but they have the same bakery products. In Colorado, my suggestion is to use a high-altitude baking recipe, otherwise, the bread will not rise to its full height.

I have been buying bakery goods from Safeway since I moved here 20 years ago and I must say since Jessica Benton has taken a position there I feel like the quality of goods has gone way up! She and her staff are so thoughtful and helpful I wouldn’t go anywhere else!
