Disappointed, especially for the price.I paid $18 for “The Fresh”, and it was honestly the biggest letdown of my trip to Chicago. The bagel was burnt, the portion of lox was paper-thin (practically translucent/ non-existent), and the salad mix on top was so wet that it dripped down my arm while I ate. For that price, I expected something a lot more balanced and satisfying. I’ve had much better at airport Einstein Bros. Bagels for a third of the cost… and with at least double (if not triple) the lox. Unfortunately, I left disappointed and still thinking about how underwhelming it was. 🙃 Pick anywhere else and you’ll be happier. 🫶

Introduction / Overview
For residents and visitors of Illinois, especially those near the city’s iconic North Side, finding a truly exceptional bagel shop can be a serious quest. Look no further than Steingold’s Bagels & Nosh, a standout destination that brings a distinctly modern, yet deeply traditional, take on the classic Jewish deli experience right to Chicago. Rooted in the rich heritage of Jewish cuisine, Steingold’s has earned a reputation for honoring the past while confidently embracing contemporary flavors. While the Steingold's brand has grown to encompass several ventures, the Bagels & Nosh concept focuses on their core strengths: incredible bagels and creative "nosh" options that go far beyond a simple schmear.
The entire operation is built on a foundation of quality and tradition. Steingold's signature bagels are meticulously hand-rolled, proofed overnight, boiled, and finally baked early every morning in the time-honored New York City style. This dedication to craft is evident in every bite, delivering a satisfying crunch on the outside and a perfect chew on the inside, the hallmark of an authentic, high-quality bagel. This commitment ensures that Chicagoans don’t have to travel to the East Coast for a genuine bagel experience.
Beyond the classic bagel and cream cheese, Steingold’s Bagels & Nosh serves as a fully realized modern deli. The menu is expansive, featuring overstuffed signature sandwiches, inventive open-face bagel creations, hearty breakfast sandwiches, and an array of sweet and savory pastries. The atmosphere is designed to be welcoming and inclusive, positioning itself as an LGBTQ+ friendly and Transgender safespace, with gender-neutral restrooms and Wi-Fi access, making it a comfortable spot for a quick visit or a leisurely morning meal. What is Worth Choosing
For the Illinois local seeking a true deli experience, Steingold’s Bagels & Nosh is a must-visit location for several compelling reasons. The fundamental worth lies in their unwavering commitment to quality ingredients and classic preparation methods. Unlike mass-produced alternatives, the Steingold’s bagel is a craft product—boiled for a slightly denser, chewier interior and a glossy, crisp exterior that provides the perfect base for any topping. This adherence to the NYC tradition, combined with a modern Chicago perspective, creates a product that stands out.
Beyond the bagel itself, the shop shines through its inventive menu. While the traditional Bagel And Schmear is perfect with Plain Cream Cheese, adventurous patrons will appreciate the unique, localized flavors, particularly the Hot Giardiniera Cream Cheese, a signature offering that brilliantly fuses Chicago’s famous pickled pepper relish with the creamy richness of schmear. For those desiring a heartier meal, the Signature Sandwiches and Breakfast Sandwiches are a main draw. Options like the Classic Lox, featuring house-cured Nova Lox, are consistently popular and embody the authentic deli feel, although some customers have noted pricing and portion size should align with high expectations. The option to choose from deli classics like The Traditional or the hot Reuben, complete with a side of kettle chips, pasta salad, or a pickle, makes it an ideal spot for lunch. The addition of draft and canned adult beverages, including a selection of local Illinois craft beers and wines, transforms the venue into a relaxed space for a weekend brunch or a post-work pick-me-up. Finally, the welcoming and inclusive crowd vibe, coupled with excellent service accessibility, ensures that every visit to Steingold’s Bagels & Nosh is a positive, flavorful experience right in the heart of Chicago.

Great lox bagels! Did not realize the garden cream cheese was $2 extra... lowkey not worth but still yummy delicious. Highly recommend the potato salad as a side.
Jun 28 · Bela LeGreat bagels and coffee! The jammed up sandwich is heavenly!
May 5 · Sara ParenteI bought three different sandwiches and all of them were entirely mediocre at best. I only went to this location because the original Southport is closed on Tuesdays. They were honestly horrible, ruined my morning, and I still spent an arm and a leg on them — mushy, the sausage was cheap. Will only ever go to Southport location, they actually cook real eggs there.
Jul 29 · Joseph FedericoJust as good as their main location on Southport, and a good deal more convenient since it’s right next to the Addison red line station. Convenient, quality food, good coffee, and at a plus they’ve got free seltzer on tap! This is my go to breakfast spot in the neighborhood
