What Is Worth Choosing

Choosing Captain Bakery is a decision to prioritize authentic flavor, high quality, and incredible value. For locals in Illinois seeking a truly satisfying bakery experience, the reasons to choose this establishment are compelling and clear.

Firstly, the authenticity of their Cantonese and Chinese baked goods is a primary draw. Many customers rave about how the food evokes the taste of traditional, "old school" recipes, which is a significant endorsement of their quality and traditional baking methods. If you're looking for a genuine taste of Asian bakery classics, this is where you’ll find it.

Secondly, the sheer variety and freshness stand out. The menu is a delightful journey through savory and sweet options—from various meaty buns like the Chinese Sausage Bun and Curry Chicken Bun to delicious sweet twists such as the Sweet Top With Butter (Pineapple Butter Bun) and the flavorful Salted Egg Cake. The fact that everything is consistently described as "fresh" and "delicious" speaks volumes about their operational commitment. The extensive drink menu also makes it a one-stop-shop, allowing you to pair a Mango Mousse Cake with a perfectly prepared Iced Hong Kong Milk Tea or a refreshing Lychee Iced Fruit Tea.

Finally, value for money is a major factor. In an era of rising costs, Captain Bakery maintains very reasonable and, in some cases, "cheap" prices when compared to other major bakeries, without ever compromising on ingredient quality or portion size. This combination of superior taste, generous portions, and accessible pricing ensures a highly rewarding experience for every Illinois customer who walks through their doors. While seating may be limited, the focus is clearly on the superb quality of the takeout offerings, making it an essential visit for anyone in the Chicago area.

A hidden gem of a chinese bakery in Bridgeport/McKinley area. They have a great variety of Cantonese buns and other pastries. The food reminds me of how real old school Cantonese buns should taste. Better than the big bakeries in Chinatown. These are fresh and taste like they are made with quality ingredients. The prices are reasonable and cheap compared to the big names in Chinatown. Highly recommend you give them a try. Seating is limited to 4 window counters. Cash is preferred but credit cards requires 4% transaction fee.

This bakery is such a gem!! I almost don’t wanna post this review bc I feel like it will become mainstream but this place really does deserve the praise and the business. I am Hispanic and going to an Asian bakery was daunting for me. Not knowing what everything was or how it would taste. But I walked in and the woman behind the counter was really kind and took her time to explain what everything was. She made recommendations and as we spoke, the young man who works there brought more stuff to the display. Letting me know just how fresh everything was made. During conversation, I learned that this was a family business locally owned. Both the mother and father as well as the son run it and it runs smoothly. After answering all my questions, I had a mountain of pastries ready to pay for. To my surprise, one big box came out to $23. I was shocked. I’m used to paying upwards of $40 for the amount of stuff I got. I’ve been going back at least once every weekend. And sometimes when I’m starving and need a quick snack, I’ll pop by and get a curry bun. This is a great bakery and their customer service is top tier!
