About and visit notes

For decades, Honey Dew Donuts has been a familiar and reliable part of the New England landscape, and its location on Newport Avenue in Rumford, Rhode Island is no exception. This particular shop has cemented itself as a local go-to, a place where the community can count on a consistently good cup of coffee and a wide array of classic donuts and breakfast items. In a region where coffee and donut shops are a dime a dozen, Honey Dew has managed to stand out by focusing on a simple, effective formula: quality products, a diverse menu, and a sense of local familiarity. For many Rhode Islanders, a trip to Honey Dew isn't just about a quick morning stop; it's a part of their daily routine, a taste of comfort that has remained consistent over the years.

The bakery and coffee chain was founded in Mansfield, Massachusetts in 1973, and since then, it has grown to become a staple across New England. The brand is built on a foundation of "Always Fresh, Always Good," a motto that the Rumford location seems to take to heart. Customers often express a deep loyalty to Honey Dew, citing its superiority to other chains in terms of taste and product quality. The offerings are not just donuts; they've expanded to include a variety of sandwiches, pastries, and a full coffee bar, catering to a broader range of customer needs and cementing its role as a versatile breakfast and lunch spot. This evolution has allowed Honey Dew to stay relevant in an ever-changing market while holding onto the classic appeal that made it popular in the first place.

The Newport Avenue location is also known for its drive-thru service, a feature that has made it a particularly convenient choice for many. While a past incident raised concerns about the handling of a drive-thru order and customer service, it's important to view this within the context of the shop's long-standing history and overall reputation for consistency. The customer's experience, while regrettable, highlights a potential for human error and the need for professionalism, which is a standard that most businesses, including this one, aim to uphold. It's a reminder that even in a place that feels like a part of the family, open communication and respect are paramount. Despite this specific issue, the general consensus among many regulars is that the staff is typically kind and the service is efficient, especially considering the high volume of customers the shop serves. The Rumford Honey Dew is a destination built on decades of positive experiences and a reliable product.

The Honey Dew Donuts shop is conveniently located at 100 Newport Ave in Rumford, RI, making it a highly accessible spot for locals. The address places it on a major road, ensuring that it is easy to find for both residents of Rumford and those traveling from nearby towns like East Providence and Pawtucket. The presence of a drive-thru window is a significant advantage, particularly for customers on their morning commute who need to grab their order quickly and get on with their day. This convenience factor is a key reason for the store's popularity and is a service that many locals rely on.

For those who prefer to dine in, the store offers a cozy atmosphere where you can enjoy your coffee and donut at a more leisurely pace. While some reviews suggest the interior facilities may need some sprucing up, the overall environment is one of comfort and familiarity. The parking situation is generally good, with enough space to accommodate both drive-thru and in-store customers, which is a notable benefit in a busy area. The location is also well-integrated into the local community, situated among other businesses and residential areas, making it a natural and logical stop for anyone in the vicinity. The hours of operation are designed to cater to early risers and the morning rush, a necessity for a popular coffee and donut shop.

This morning my partner and I drove through the drive through and my HOT coffee was spilled all over my partner as he was getting it from the person at the window. The person at the window did not express any concern, was dismissive, and indicated the cause of the coffee spilling was because of my partner, and his ‘lack of awareness’ of OUR car instead. The drive through window is very high up, which is no fault of theirs, but given this, it is important to be conscious of how things are handed to customers, especially hot drinks. The person at the window did not get paper towels or napkins right when the spill occurred, only after we were about to drive away. They also did not ask if my partner was okay from the hot coffee being spilled at the potential of it burning him. As we are young adults of mixed race, it adds the question of if this behavior was due to age and racial discrimination on the staff end. While this is not indicative of Honey Dew as a whole, this was extremely disheartening and the situation was handled very poorly and unprofessionally from a business standpoint. Making sure the wellbeing of a customer when something occurs, such as a large amount of hot coffee being spilled on them, should be at the forefront. Accidents happen, as we are all human, but it is our job, especially as workers, to display professionalism and respect with customers who are paying money and are being patient with the staff.

I haven't ever gotten a bad cup of coffee from Honey Dew. Their ability to turn out a consistently good cup of coffee over decades is astounding.

Used to be my go to place in the morning but it’s terrible there now. My coffee is never good at this location and service is terribly slow. Be prepared to sit in the drive thru line for a while even if you’re the only car. The people working aren’t very friendly either. I was given the wrong sandwich in the drive thru and was told to get my correct sandwich I had to give the wrong one back which isn’t allowed at restaurants due to cross contamination. Once it goes into the customers possession an employee should never touch it again. Also if you make a mistake and it’s just going in the trash why not let the customer keep it? While inside waiting for my correct sandwich I saw an employee touching food, their headset, and hair/forehead all with the same pair of gloves on. I won’t be back.

This was my usual stop for breakfast before work, but not anymore! I placed my usual order in the drive thru and he audibly sighed. I thought he was just being funny but apparently not. When he handed me my order he said "Just so you know, we reserve the right not to service guests." No idea what I did to deserve that.

You people are an absolute joke. Seriously how greedy does EVERY SINGLE COMPANY need to be ??? Your 7 dollar bacon egg and cheese is no more than 2 millimeters thick , it is a bagel sandwich. You chain used to have the best sandwiches. I haven't been in years and was craving this and found one. But , nope, never again. Seriously every chain is simultaneously destroying itselves to "boost profitability" but all your achieving is you are ripping your customers off and one by one they will never return. Absolutely wild I just drove 20 minutes to come here to get a piece of bread and immediately have to leave the house again to go get another sandwich elsewhere as was still starving.I can PROMISE you I will never visit a honey dew again. By your ghost town establishment seems I'm not the only one.
