What is Worth Choosing: A Local’s Perspective

For San Francisco residents, choosing La Boulangerie de San Francisco is about embracing a little piece of European tradition without leaving California. It’s an ideal choice for several compelling reasons. First, its versatility as a multi-type establishment—a Bakery, Cafe, and Organic restaurant—means it's a one-stop-shop for a wide variety of daily needs, from your morning Drip Coffee to a satisfying, fresh lunch. This fusion is a major benefit for the busy local lifestyle.

The quality and depth of the menu are undeniable. While the traditional French pastries are the star, and items like the Butter Croissant are essential tasting experiences, the bakery has thoughtfully expanded its offerings to include modern, health-conscious choices. The focus on organic restaurant type fare, evident in the inclusion of items like the Arugula & Quinoa Power Bowl and a variety of fresh salads, demonstrates a commitment to catering to the health and wellness trends popular in California. Furthermore, the availability of both dine-in for a leisurely experience and multiple quick options like takeout and delivery ensures that the bakery fits seamlessly into any part of your day.

While some past customer feedback noted a desire for more flakiness in specific croissants or a stronger flavor in certain fillings, this kind of specific, honest feedback speaks to a high level of engagement from a discerning local customer base. The sheer breadth of the menu, however, ensures there is something for everyone. From a simple, perfectly crafted Espresso to the indulgent Chocolate Croissant, and the practical, delicious BLT sandwich, the overall value proposition is strong. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick Raspberry Financier and a coffee, or sitting down to enjoy a fresh Kale Caesar With Mary's Sous Vide Chicken, this local gem is a worthwhile addition to your regular rotation. The combination of classic French baking techniques and California-friendly menu options makes it an excellent choice for a wide range of San Francisco palates.

Cute little bakery. We got a garlic, spinach goat cheese quiche, an almond croissant, a kouign-amann, a ham and Swiss croissant, and a peach and custard. The quiche was tasty but the goat cheese was a little salty for my taste. The almond croissant was ok but kinda matches the taste from Panera. The kouign-amann is a very lemon flavor so be ready for that. The ham and Swiss tasted more like Parmesan than Swiss. The peach pastry was actually my favorite, with just a bit of peach flavor on a light custard.

TLDR: croissants weren’t very flakyI had a few different croissants, two with pistachio and one with chocolate hazelnut. The croissants themselves were not very flaky, and the pistachio flavor was a bit bland. I would have preferred stronger pistachio flavor.

I’ve been wanting to try @laboulangeriesf for so long! They had a couple locations in the city, and I was lucky to swing by their 1st location in SF!The ladies inside were so nice and friendly ☺️Almost reminds me of a neighbor that baked some fresh pastries and sharing it with you in the morning!I can’t help myself to get the raspberry croissant 🥐. It’s so cute and also delicious! Not overly sweet and full of raspberry aroma. The outside sugar crust was also a good addition to the texture!Their regular croissant is also good! Very buttery with clear layers. Can’t wait to come again for other pastries 🥰

Is it the most vegan friendly bakery on Fillmore? It is notoriously difficult to find anything vegan and I’m very grateful that this place is inclusive and welcomes everyone!
