Such a cute spot! We ordered 12 flavors to-go. Standouts for me were the passionfruit curd and peach cobbler (this one really took the crown). Staff were super kind and the space is cozy. Next time I’m back I need to see about this chicken and waffles sandwich… 👀 Highly recommend for a sweet treat.

## A New Tradition in Oregon: Mikiko Mochi Donuts Overview
For Oregonians seeking a delightful and accommodating sweet treat, Mikiko Mochi Donuts stands out as a true local treasure. Located in the vibrant heart of Portland, this small business has been revolutionizing the donut scene by specializing in a unique and utterly delicious Japanese-American hybrid: the mochi donut. Founded by Emily Mikiko Strocher and Alex McGillivray, Mikiko’s journey began as a pop-up in February 2020, quickly pivoting to a successful delivery model during the pandemic before opening their beloved brick-and-mortar shop in March 2022.
What sets Mikiko Mochi Donuts apart is their unwavering commitment to inclusivity and quality. Their donuts are naturally gluten-free and dairy-free, made from a butter mochi base that uses sweet rice flour (mochiko) and coconut milk. This unique composition delivers a texture that is light, airy, moist, and delightfully chewy—a satisfying contrast to the typical cake or yeast donut. Furthermore, the shop operates a dedicated gluten-free kitchen, ensuring a safe and worry-free indulgence for those with celiac disease or gluten sensitivities. This dedication to catering to diverse dietary needs without sacrificing flavor or creativity has made them a local favorite and a recognized player in Portland’s acclaimed culinary landscape, earning a spot on various "best of" lists.
The shop’s philosophy is to offer donuts that everybody can enjoy, regardless of dietary restrictions. Their innovative flavor combinations often draw on Emily's Japanese-American roots, blending traditional and nostalgic concepts for truly unique taste experiences. From tart and fruity curds to savory breakfast items served on a mochi donut bun, Mikiko Mochi Donuts delivers a fun, ever-changing menu that keeps locals coming back for more.

Unfortunately, this really wasn’t it. I was craving mochi donuts and was really excited to go. Ordered a half dozen to share with my friends. We all tried a small bite of each but ended up throwing them all away. The flavors weren’t balanced and the donuts themselves didn’t hold up well against the frosting. My friend got chicken and waffles said it was fine. I got a sausage and egg breakfast sandwich and the insides were great but on the donut - it was honestly kind of gross? Like just too sweet and mushy for it to be good.Such a bummer all around!
Jul 22 · Jordyn GoffoWe are so fortunate to have Mikiko Mochi Donuts to provide gluten free dairy free donuts in Portland!! There are so many wonderful flavors to choose from. The donuts are a little chewy and very tasty. Some flavors are regular, but every time there are seasonal flavors to try.
Jul 12 · VickyAmazing flavors!! Got 1/2 a dozen, my absolute FAVORITE the strawberry!!!Gluten free!?? The texture reminds me of sticky rice more than a traditional donut. So very very delicious!!! I'll be back!!!It's a smaller place, not a lot of seating - I think there is more outdoor seating than inside, perfect for summer!!Service was friendly, and fast! I would highly recommend if you love pastries and are gluten free and or dairy free!!You may need to park a block away, WORTH IT!!!
Jun 29 · Jeannie DavisMy friend surprised me with these donuts and wow are they amazing! I’m not a big fan of donuts, but THESE DONUTS- tasted wayyy better than regular donuts. They were soft, but with enough texture-you felt like you were eating something. They aren’t overly sweet and don’t taste artificial. Really fun, interesting flavors. I particularly enjoyed the Ube and the mango sticky rice! You can’t go wrong with any of the flavors… nice to enjoy really tasty gluten free donuts in Portland! They definitely do not taste gluten-free!!!
