Introduction / Overview

For residents of Washington, and especially those in the Puget Sound region, finding a local gem that combines exceptional quality with a genuinely welcoming atmosphere is always a pleasure. Dough Joy, situated in the vibrant West Seattle neighborhood, is precisely one such destination. Far from being just another sweet treat spot, this establishment is a popular, queer-owned, all-vegan donut and coffee shop that has quickly cemented its status as a local favorite. From its roots as a successful food truck to its brick-and-mortar location, Dough Joy has captivated the community with its commitment to crafting fluffy, yeasted donuts that are completely plant-based.

The core of Dough Joy’s appeal lies in its inventive and delicious take on a classic treat. They specialize in yeast-raised donuts, which are renowned for their pillowy, melt-in-your-mouth texture. The flavors are a perfect mix of nostalgic classics and wildly creative specials, ensuring there’s always something new and exciting to try. Beyond the donuts, Dough Joy is a full-service coffee and tea house, offering a carefully curated selection of espresso drinks, specialty lattes, and other refreshing beverages that beautifully complement their sweet offerings. This is a place where every patron, regardless of dietary preference or identity, can find a delightful treat and a sense of belonging.

The shop's commitment to inclusivity and quality is evident in every detail. As an openly LGBTQ+ owned business, it actively fosters an environment described by customers as both LGBTQ+ friendly and a 'Transgender safespace,' making it a true community hub. Moreover, the dedication to all-vegan ingredients means their products are free of egg, dairy, and most nuts, making them more accessible to individuals with common dietary needs. They also go the extra mile by providing dedicated gluten-free options, acknowledging the importance of safe and delicious choices for those with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity.

Gluten-free vegan donut options that are actually amazing - heck yes! It’s so hard to find allergy-friendly treats that actually taste good, and I was so so happy when I tried these donuts. There was no wait when we got it, and got lucky with street parking so it was a fast trip. The gluten-free donuts do have a slightly sweet-corn taste, which was unexpected but actually really worked. I tried the strawberry, chocolate, and cherry option, and the strawberry was by far my favorite but they were all really good. They have seating so you could likely work from the donut shop. They also have coffee and tea, but heads up - the matcha isn’t ceremonial grade so I decided to skip it.I would absolutely go back again.
