When in Seattle and are needing a coffee and a doughnut (or two), Top Pot is the place to go. Been there several times and always had a great coffee and doughnuts. Staff was helpful and polite, but the seem to have an attitude at times. Besides that I highly recommend this place.

About and visit notes
Introduction / Overview: More Than Just a Donut Shop—A Seattle Institution
For nearly two decades, Top Pot Doughnuts has been an essential fixture in the culinary landscape of Washington, transcending the typical "donut shop" label to become a genuine Seattle institution. This location at 720 3rd Avenue in the heart of Downtown Seattle is a prime example of the company's commitment to quality, a place where the aromas of freshly brewed, hand-roasted coffee and "hand-forged" doughnuts create an irresistible, welcoming atmosphere.
Top Pot’s origin story is as unique as its products, beginning in 2002 when co-founders Mark and Michael Klebeck sought to create an urban oasis. Their inspiration? A secret 1920s doughnut recipe paired with a gorgeous vintage aesthetic, an experience intentionally designed to move away from the fluorescent-lit fast-food model. The company's unique name was serendipitously born when the ‘S’ fell off a vintage “Topspot” neon sign they were restoring, leaving behind the now-iconic “Top Pot.” This blend of the old and the new defines the brand.
The 3rd Avenue location is not just a cafe; it’s a central hub for a business that proudly serves the entire Puget Sound region. The designation as a "Donut shop, Coffee shop, and Dessert restaurant" perfectly captures its dual excellence. It's a place where you can grab a quick, satisfying breakfast, settle in for a moment of solo dining with a magazine, or pick up a dozen classic treats for the office. For Washington locals, Top Pot is a matter of local pride, having grown from a single Capitol Hill store to a widely recognized brand whose commitment to quality earned it national accolades and features on many "best doughnut" lists. This is a place where every item is made from scratch, fried in sustainably harvested zero trans-fat palm oil, ensuring a premium taste in every bite.

- “Hand-Forged” Doughnut Process: Unlike mass-produced items, Top Pot’s doughnuts are made from scratch daily using a secret 1920s recipe, resulting in a moist interior and a perfect slight crunch on the outside.
- Award-Winning Classics: The Old Fashioned variety is a perennial favorite, often praised for its perfect glaze-to-dough ratio, available in flavors like Plain, Glazed, and Maple Frosted.

What is Worth Choosing Top Pot Doughnuts
For anyone in Washington, choosing Top Pot Doughnuts, especially the central 3rd Avenue location, means opting for unparalleled quality and a genuine local experience. What is truly worth choosing here is the combination of their two core strengths: their award-winning, classic doughnuts and their high-quality, hand-roasted coffee.
Firstly, you are choosing a product that has been consistently ranked among the best in America. The "hand-forged" difference in the Old Fashioned and the unique indulgence of the Feather Boa provide a superior taste that avoids the typical post-doughnut sugar coma, offering a perfect ratio of flavor to texture. Customers consistently rave about the "always delicious donuts" and their status as the "best donut in Seattle!"
Secondly, you are choosing a complete beverage experience. The quality of the coffee is explicitly noted as a highlight. Opting for a shot of the El Presidente espresso blend or a drip cup of the balanced Diplomat blend ensures that the drink is on par with the quality of the dessert. This makes Top Pot the perfect destination when you are "needing a coffee and a doughnut (or two)."
Finally, you are choosing convenience and a welcoming atmosphere. The shop is casual, designed for a quick visit, and perfect for grabbing a moment of indulgence. Despite some anecdotal feedback about staff attitude, the overall experience is highly recommended due to the consistently delicious quality of the core products and the friendly service. In summary, Top Pot Doughnuts on 3rd Avenue is the quintessential downtown Seattle stop for a reliable, high-quality breakfast or dessert from a locally beloved and nationally recognized Washington brand.

Always delicious donuts, always tasty coffee and always friendly staff! Do yourself a favor and check out Top Pot if you're downtown or at any of their locations. They are the best donut in Seattle!
Feb 28 · Reed LarsonService was good. Place was clean and inviting. Had the maple glazed old fashioned and a glazed pumpkin old fashioned plus coffee. The pumpkin was good but could primarily only taste the glaze and not the pumpkin flavor I was hoping for.
Nov 11 · Mel SmithFriendly and inviting!I passed by at around 8:15am and there was no line. I had a simple 12oz drip and 2 cinnamon sugar cake donuts. Reasonably priced for being in the city. Came up to around ~7.50Will most likely pass by here again.
Feb 28 · Everardo PiñaFriendly doughnut shop at about $2 each for good-quality doughnuts. Double dip chocolate cake doughnut and glazed cinnamon twist were among the best.Already made my second visit and quality and friendliness remained.Five star place; I removed one star because the seasonal, “gourmet” options weren’t available, largely due to supply chain issues (for key ingredients) I’m told.
