Anchored Bake Shop Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For residents of North Carolina, particularly those in the scenic Yadkin Valley and the charming town of Mount Airy—famously known as the inspiration for Mayberry—Anchored Bake Shop offers a true taste of local culinary talent. Officially known as Anchored Sweet Treats & Savory Eats, this unique local business is far more than just a typical bakery. It is a heartfelt reflection of Surry County’s culinary heritage, expertly managed by owner and accomplished pastry chef, Samantha Coleman, who was born and raised right here in the county. Samantha’s dedication to her craft is rooted in a lifelong passion for cooking, which she honed through formal culinary training and experience as a Pastry Chef in Roaring Gap before opening her own venture.
Anchored Bake Shop has firmly established itself as a must-visit destination for North Carolinians, offering a delightful and balanced array of both classic sweet treats and hearty savory options. Whether you are craving a perfect, flaky scone, a mega-sized cinnamon roll to start your day, or a comforting quiche for lunch, this bakery delivers on freshness and homemade quality. Their focus is on daily baked goods, ensuring that the selection of cookies, cupcakes, and bars is always at its peak. The shop embraces the local identity, standing just off of Main Street in the heart of Mount Airy, serving not only delicious food but also freshly brewed Mayberry Coffee, connecting the experience directly to the beloved local culture. It’s a place where locals can quickly grab a treat or a coffee on their quick visit, and out-of-town visitors can experience true North Carolina hospitality and flavor.
The bakery’s unique appeal to North Carolina locals lies in its commitment to regional specialties. A particular highlight and point of pride is their inclusion as a stop on the prestigious Surry Sonker Trail. For those unfamiliar with this regional favorite, sonker is a cobbler-like dessert unique to Surry County, NC, and Samantha Coleman is a third-generation maker of this traditional dish. This makes Anchored Bake Shop a cultural touchstone as much as a source of delicious food. The warmth and knowledge of the owner, as noted by customers who received a brief history of the building and surrounding area, further enrich the local experience, making a stop at Anchored Bake Shop a personal connection to Mount Airy’s history and community.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1You have to go there, it’s right off the main walk but well worth it. I bought the butter cake bars, brownies and a raspberry white chocolate scone. My favorite was the butter cake bar and I’m a chocolate girl but it is awesome. The lady ( I guess the owner) gave us history in the building and buildings around the area. The architect was so beautiful. So that little store had something for everyone. She was so sweet, talented and knowledgeable. I will definitely be going back. More to put in my freeze if it makes it without being eaten.
August 27 · Rhonda KThe only thing that I didn't like was that it was so hard to choose which yummy treat to get! There were so many options! The strawberry pound cake and cinnamon bread were delicious! Be sure to check Facebook for current hours and to see what they might have! It was very helpful for me to check there first!
June 13 · N WI’ve been twice. The sticky buns and cinnamon rolls look delicious but they are not, they have very little flavor are are wasted calories, as far as I’m concerned. I will say the meat pies are delicious, but the same lady has waited on me twice now and couldn’t possibly be any less friendly without being rude. She is standoffish, as if she resents your coming in, and it wasn’t just me. If you don’t have the personality to deal with the public, then please hire staff that does. I always cheer on small businesses, but I have a hard time saying very much in favor of this place and I most certainly will not be back and have already shared my experience with friends and family.
October 16 · Jennifer MarionThere is always something great to choose from to cure your sweet craving. The brownies are wonderful. My husband bought an assortment of treats for our anniversary and they were all amazing and nicely packaged. Highly reccomend Anchored!
August 07 · Lori MossStopped in with my friend and we both had an iced coffee and split a slice of the mushroom blue cheese quiche and also split an apple fritter. Everything was amazing!! You could tell they were made with love and the real stuff!I would highly recommend this adorable cafe! We’ll be back for sure 😁
