May 19 · Monique JohnsonBake My Day made an exact replica of the 'Mad Science' Inspiration cake we requested! Not only was the cake extremely beautiful, it was moist and delicious!! It's tough to find a cake that's both esthetically pleasing and tasty but they nailed it! Our party guests (and the birthday boy) were pleased!
June 30 · Yvette CartyI really wanted to support a small business, but my experience with this cake shop was beyond frustrating and disappointing. My first interaction over the phone with the owner was fine--she asked me to send a photo of the cake design I wanted, and then she provided a quote: $95 for the cake and $30 for a dozen cupcakes. I appreciated the quick turnaround. However, less than 24 hours later, I received a message saying the quote was canceled because I hadn't responded yet--which felt a bit abrupt and overly strict for such a short time frame. Still, I decided to move forward and contacted her again to confirm the date was available. She asked for screenshots of our prior messages because she had deleted them on her end, which I provided. I then asked if she needed anything else, and instead of a simple "I'll get back to you on Monday," she responded with an oddly aggressive message about being very busy Friday and Saturday and taking Sunday off. I wasn't rushing her--I was just trying to be thorough--so her tone came off as unprofessional. When Monday came around, she asked for more information, including the number of servings. I responded, saying approximately 11, and she insisted I send a screenshot of our previous conversation about servings--even though there was no mention of servings in any of the texts that we have previously had. I explained that I never sent serving details and offered a screen recording to prove it. She dismissed it, saying the text was too small to read, and kept insisting that she "would never" give a quote without knowing the servings, despite the fact that she clearly had. What should have been a simple clarification turned into a frustrating phone call where she argued and repeatedly insisted she was right--even though I had the messages to prove otherwise. I told her there may have been a miscommunication on the phone, but she refused to acknowledge even that possibility.Feeling uneasy, I asked for my $30 deposit back. She refused, saying work had already started, though nothing had actually been finalized, and most of the "work" was us going back and forth about serving sizes. I felt backed into a corner because I still needed the cake, so I tried again to move forward and gave her the serving size (12). She immediately pointed out that I had said 10 earlier--even though she then admitted the size of the cake would be the same either way. That kind of unnecessary nitpicking made it clear this was going to be a difficult experience.Eventually, I decided I no longer felt comfortable having someone so combative and argumentative working on food I was going to give to someone. I texted her again to cancel and ask for my deposit back. She never responded. All in all, while her cakes may look nice, the customer service is severely lacking. Her communication style is aggressive and overly defensive, and she has a tendency to argue instead of problem-solve.Based on the low reviews, it's clear this is a pattern. She spends her time responding to negative reviews in a very argumentative and combative tone instead of reflecting and working to improve her customer service skills. I would 100% expect that she's going to have something to say in response to this review too.
April 08 · Kaira PettwayWe placed a order with Christine for my husbands 45th Birthday. We told her that we wanted the cake to be a 3 tier cake and we wanted it to be chocolate cake with chocolate icing and caramel filling with some dark blue, and white decorations. It was suppose to be ready at 11am and when my daughter went to go get it Christine said we weren’t suppose to pick it up until 6pm. She had us give her a $45. Deposit for a $150. Cake. She started raising her voice with my daughter saying we were a different name and we had to tell her who we were and then she tried saying we didn’t tell her what we wanted. If we didn’t tell her what we wanted then how can you price a cake and then take the deposit. She made the cake and had it ready by 1pm but it I will add a picture. It’s not 3 tier and it doesn’t have the decorations. Not worth 150.00My daughter is Almost 23 yrs old and I was helping her make decisions with the cake. We have everything in text to the owner. Read other reviews she has done this to other people and will continue to do so. Until everyone with a bad experience posts on here to make her change her bad ways.
September 05 · Montana GonzalesFound Bake My Day after not being able to order cakes from a long established bakery in Ontario. While on the phone with Christine, I explained my experience with the other bakery in regards to how I wanted beautiful floral cakes for my mom's birthday, sending pictures of cakes made with fondant or buttercream. I made sure to inform them that I was aware the clean and neat look was either buttercream or fondant, but that my family did not like either, and that the cakes needed to be topped with whip cream. For some reason she needed to defend the other bakery instead of just going along with what I was trying to order. I ordered 4 small cakes, because the birthday was to be an all day event, guests come and go as they liked. The cakes were beautiful, gorgeous cakes. We cut into the piña colada cake first. The presentation, spectacular!! The cake, moist and delicious. But.... I especially requested the topping to be whipped cream. Ugh, buttercream. An hour later, we cut into the second. Buttercream. The third... buttercream. All very sweet. After mentioning it to several guests throughout the day, all were in agreement. Very tasty, moist, perfect textured cake. Not a one liked the frosting and would have preferred the whip cream topping. The best cake was the last one I cut into. Chocolate cake with chocolate whip cream!!!! Wowzers!!! I truly do want to order here again, and hopefully the cakes in the future will be as we order... with whip cream! On a side note, many family and friends are diabetic... we do enjoy a slice of cake once in awhile and the buttercream is just way too sugary for us.
