Day Moon Introduce
Introduction / Overview
In the fog-kissed, no-rush atmosphere of San Francisco's Outer Sunset district, Day Moon stands out not just as a bakery, but as a beloved neighborhood institution that captures the quiet, artisanal spirit of this unique corner of California. This minimalist and thoughtfully curated spot has quickly become a local favorite for its exceptional, bread-focused offerings, proving that sometimes, the simplest things are truly the best. Day Moon is more than just a place to grab a quick pastry; it’s a destination where the quality of the ingredients and the dedication to the craft of baking shine through in every bite. It’s a place that invites you to slow down, echoing the relaxed energy of the Outer Sunset itself.
While the selection may be purposefully limited—focusing primarily on high-quality, freshly baked bread and a selection of pastries—the products offered are consistently praised for their superior flavor and texture. Customers frequently single out the baked goods, such as the airy scones, delightful crumble bars, and tart upside-down cakes, as must-try items. The core of Day Moon's reputation, however, rests squarely on its phenomenal bread. Local patrons and visitors alike are enthusiastic in their appreciation, with many calling their sourdough baguette the best they have ever had, placing Day Moon in the esteemed company of the Bay Area’s top bread makers.
More than a bakery, Day Moon doubles as a comfortable local hangout. It offers a warm environment where you can enjoy an expertly prepared coffee—made on a state-of-the-art La Marzocco machine—alongside your pastry or a simple, perfectly executed sandwich. Whether you are a dedicated bread aficionado or simply looking for a friendly spot with truly fantastic baked goods and coffee to start your California day, Day Moon is a highly recommended stop that embodies the best of the local food scene.

What is Worth Choosing
When visiting Day Moon in the Outer Sunset, there are a few items that local Californians and visitors should prioritize, as they represent the pinnacle of the bakery's craft and the core of its reputation. The overwhelming consensus is that you must choose the Sourdough Baguette. Customers have proclaimed it to be "THE best baguette I've ever had," citing its perfect chewiness, solid San Francisco sourdough tang, and crusty exterior. Whether you buy a whole loaf to take home or indulge in the simple pleasure of the warmed half-baguette with butter, this is the single most celebrated item and a non-negotiable choice for any bread lover.
Following the baguette, the Scones are an essential choice. Praised for their texture—crunchy outside, soft inside—and seasonal flavors, such as the delicious Blueberry Strawberry scone, they offer a perfect, light pairing for coffee. The selection of other pastries like the Blueberry Crumble Bar and tart upside-down cakes are also highly recommended for a delicious sweet treat that showcases the baker’s skill.
Beyond the baked goods themselves, the Coffee Offerings are worth choosing. With a focus on quality, utilizing a La Marzocco machine, Day Moon provides excellent espresso drinks. While individual preferences for drinks like the cortado may vary, the overall quality of the coffee program is high, making it the ideal complement to the bakery’s sweet and savory items.
Finally, choosing to Dine-In or use the Outdoor Seating is highly recommended. The atmosphere is unique, friendly, and promotes a "no-rush" energy that aligns perfectly with the San Francisco beach-adjacent lifestyle. For a quick visit, simply grabbing a baguette and a coffee for takeout is a worthwhile, efficient choice. Ultimately, Day Moon is worth choosing because it embodies a simple, bread-focused philosophy executed at a mastery level, providing an authentic, high-quality, and friendly neighborhood experience.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Very small area to sit inside, medium outdoor area to sit.Somewhat limited selection, bread focused.Blueberry strawberry scone was delicious.Chocolate chip cookie was decent and my cortado was not to my liking. The bread looked really good, but didn't try any.
May 27 · Cassidy DaltonAn amazing place with THE best baguette I've ever had. We also tried their blueberry crumble bar and latte, both were fantastic. A great location, friendly staff and a unique ambiance. A most go for anyone visiting the area.
June 02 · Jason TarantinoTop 5 sandwiches of my life. Broccolini, pecorino, lemon aioli this is like the baguette equivalent of devils teeth special breakfast sandwich. Lattes were good but milky, salted honey was yummy
July 30 · Ashley HungSeriously, good bakery, and seriously great people. It’s a neighborhood treasure. I went there for the first time today and I will definitely be going back.I tried the peanut butter cookie and the baguette, and they were both excellent and my friend had some other loaves of bread and told me about all kinds of other Great stuff that he gets there regularly
October 20 · ari salomonHip and popular small bakery and coffee built out of a remodeled house, adding to the Sunset’s wealth of good bakeries and patisseries. I showed up right at 9:10am, basically at opening, and there was already a small line. Within 5 minutes, the line grew quite a bit.All of the hype is certainly deserved as Day Moon can bake both good bread and pastries. I had a Pear Hazelnut Cake and a plain Sesame Bun and would undoubtedly get both again, but I definitely want to try their full loaves of bread next time I swing by.
