For **California residents** in the **Bay Area** seeking a truly unique and trendsetting treat, **Mochinut** in **Downtown San Jose** offers a delightful fusion experience. This establishment distinguishes itself as a specialty bakery and donut shop focused on two major culinary trends: the incredibly popular **mochi donut** and the inventive **Korean-style hot dog**, often referred to as a corndog. Mochinut has successfully captured the attention of local foodies by delivering products that are a blend of texture, flavor, and fun presentation.
The core product, the **mochi donut**, is celebrated for its signature "light + springy" and **chewy texture**, a delightful contrast to traditional cake or yeast donuts. Shaped like a ring of connected small spheres—often described as a 'flower' shape—these donuts are known for being beautifully balanced in flavor, with bright glazes that are "not overly sweet." The menu is constantly rotating to feature new and exciting flavor combinations, ensuring there is always a fresh reason to stop by.
Beyond the sweet treats, Mochinut also offers a savory side with an extensive list of **Korean Hot Dogs**. These are far from ordinary, featuring creative toppings and coatings like **Potato**, **Crispy Ramen**, **Hot Cheetos**, and **Takis Blue Heat (Sharks)**, often with fillings that include a full hot dog, or just a large, satisfying stick of mozzarella cheese. Situated conveniently in the vibrant **San Jose** area, Mochinut is the perfect destination for a quick, flavorful, and memorable snack or dessert fix. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Enjoyed an absolutely delightful treat at Mochinut (Downtown San Jose) their mochi donuts are a perfect blend of chewy, fluffy, and flavorful. I tried the Raspberry Flower donut, and it completely won me over. The bright, fruity raspberry glaze was beautifully balanced, not overly sweet and paired perfectly with that signature light + springy mochi texture. Each bite was a mini celebration of flavor and fun shape!Highly recommend stopping by Mochinut for a bright, chewy raspberry mochi donut fix, you won’t regret it!
July 22 · Scott HobinRating: 2.6/5We ordered two hot dogs, which take about 10–15 minutes to make. I got the ramen hot dog with sugar ($7) while my brother went with the regular hot dog with sugar ($6). Sauces are an extra $0.50 each—we tried the sweet chili and Korean BBQ. The Korean BBQ didn’t pair well with the hot dog, but the sweet chili did.The ramen with sugar was interesting for a few bites, but after that the flavors didn’t really work together, even though the ramen coating was nice and crispy. The hot dog itself was just okay—they use the small pink hot dogs. Also, all of their hot dogs have a big batter bump, so they don’t look very clean or evenly made.
September 22 · Angelica LeI rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was disappointing from start to finish. I called ahead to ask how long it would take to get donuts and was told 7–8 minutes. Based on that, I drove over. When I arrived, I had some questions about the flavors, but there was no one to speak with — all the staff seemed to be hiding in the back. The only option was to order from a self-service kiosk, which isn’t helpful if you’re new or have questions. I picked what I could recognize and placed the order.I then waited over 15 minutes, only to find out they hadn’t even started making my order. I was told the first batch was “bad” and they’d need another 7–8 minutes. I explained I was in a rush and asked if it could be made faster, and the staff member just asked, “Are you going to wait?” — no apology, no effort to help.
July 19 · Ahmed BadrWhat a fun stop inside the huge San Pedro Square Market. Fresh donuts made to order. You can see the available varieties in the display window, then use the self-serve kiosk to place your order. Our order came out pretty quickly. And we finished almost as fast! We had the church, original, and raspberry mochinuts. Delicious!
November 03 · Anne Margaret WhiteKinda underwhelming experience, though the donuts themselves were fine. Appropriately hewy, and about the sweetness I expected (black sesame, not-to-sweet, the brulee one, rather sweet).Service is... unimpressive.- You order on a kiosk and of COURSE you're prompted to tip 🙄 despite there being absolutely no service whatsoever.- You don't get any indication of how long to expect your order to take (mine took about 10 minutes wait with 1 person in front of me).- You can order a minimum of three mochi donuts. And let me tell you, from personal experience, eating more than one in a sitting is not advised (my poor stomach).- You get a text when your order is ready, and then you grab the box that the service person placed on top of the counter and hope you grabbed the right one. No staff ever greets you, no staff will take your order, and of course, they don't offer you napkins or a wetnap or anything. Did I mention service is non-existent?Mochinut people, either service or do not service, but if you're not gonna service, don't prompt for a tip. Or... maybe try a bit of friendly service? As others pointed out in the reviews here, good luck if you have any questions about your order or potential order :(.Pricing: ~$12 (including tax) for 3 medium-sized mochi donuts.
