Pinay Tess Restaurant Introduce
## Introduction / Overview
For Southern California residents seeking an authentic taste of the Philippines, Pinay Tess Restaurant in Long Beach offers a culinary journey that spans both savory entrees and traditional baked goods. Located in an area unofficially known as "Little Manila," this establishment serves the local community with a menu deeply rooted in Filipino culinary traditions. Unlike a typical Western-style bakery, Pinay Tess is best understood as a Filipino restaurant that prominently features essential baked goods—a common format in Filipino communities worldwide.
The strongest appeal of Pinay Tess, and what draws many loyal customers, is its savory Filipino cuisine. The restaurant is highly celebrated for its grilling mastery, particularly its pork and chicken BBQ sticks. These items are praised for their authentic flavor and remarkable value, making them a must-try for locals. The lumpia, a crispy Filipino egg roll, also receives glowing reviews, often described as “so good” and a perfect appetizer or side.
As a bakery component, Pinay Tess offers key Filipino baked goods that are traditionally consumed for breakfast or as snacks. These typically include pandesal (a sweet, classic Filipino bread roll) and various ube (purple yam) and other filled pastries, such as ube hopia and ube ensaymada. The demand for these products reflects the cultural necessity of these breads in the local Filipino community. However, based on varied customer experiences, the focus appears to be strongly split between the consistency of the highly-rated savory dishes and the varying freshness of the baked goods.
Ultimately, Pinay Tess Restaurant is positioned as a friendly, local spot providing the comforting and authentic flavors of Filipino home cooking and classic baked treats, making it a valuable cultural and culinary fixture in the diverse Long Beach food scene.

## What is Worth Choosing
For local users in Southern California, the clear recommendation when visiting Pinay Tess Restaurant is to lean into the offerings that receive the most consistent and glowing praise: the savory Filipino BBQ and Lumpia.
It is strongly advised to order a selection of the pork and chicken BBQ sticks and a portion of the lumpia. The barbecue is celebrated as the best price for its quality and authenticity in the region. These items represent the restaurant’s core strength—hot, fresh, flavorful, and excellent value prepared Filipino cuisine. The combination provides a delicious, satisfying, and authentically Filipino meal.
While the bakery items are traditional, prospective visitors seeking bread, such as the pandesal, should manage expectations regarding freshness, particularly during non-peak times. If the primary goal is a bakery experience, it is highly recommended to inquire directly about the freshness of items like the pandesal upon arrival to ensure they meet your preference for hot, freshly baked quality. However, for an authentic, friendly, and affordable Filipino meal featuring amazing BBQ and lumpia, Pinay Tess Restaurant is a definite local must-try.

August 29 · Danny FentyI was looking forward to trying this new management that everyone online was raving how great their bake goods were but unfortunately that wasn't in my experience. I came in today this morning around 10am. I was greeted by an older Filipino man. I asked if they have hot pan de sal? And he said, yes and how many would I like? I asked if the pan de sal is freshly baked this morning and still hot? He kept saying huh? I repeated myself and he gave me a blank stare. I wasn't sure if he could not hear me or a language barrier but he can speak good english. I repeated my question and he said, it's hot in the oven over three hours ago. So I decided to order a dozen pan de sal, ube hopia, and ube ensaymada. I noticed the pan de sal were placed in a clear plastic bag rather than a paper bag which I find odd because usually if it's fresh it's always placed in a paper bag. Soon as I got home I tried the pan de sal. It tasted very dry, stale, and 2-3 days old. This is a huge disappointment. Now I understand why the older Filipino man could not give me a straight forward answer in regards if the pan de sal were freshly bake this morning and still hot. I believe these pan de sal were place in the oven that were days old just to resell again. The ube hopia weren't that good, it has a garlic flavor to them which I love garlic but not on ube hopia. I don't think I'll be coming back to this place again. It lacked honesty, hospitality, and quality. The best bakery in my opinion is Pampanga's Bakery in Artesia. Save yourself from coming here.
November 01 · Chris SWent in the afternoon and tried this place for boba, since my usual shop next door had a line out the door. I thought maybe this might be on par with the quality of boba they serve as well, but was greatly disappointed! The boba was not good/ hard. I also tried the bread filled with ube and covered with butter/sugar on top (not sure what the specific name of the pastry was called) it was ok, definitely not fresh. When I went they also had different meals for sale, but didn't try them.
November 13 · E SI love this Filipino fast food restaurant!!!
September 24 · SA AgCan't wait to try the Filipino bread from this new location. There is a lot of local competition but I hope this one will be good!
