In a city synonymous with the bagel, where countless establishments vie for the title of "best," PopUp Bagels offers a refreshingly distinct experience that has captured the attention of New Yorkers. Located at 1457 3rd Ave on the Upper East Side, this isn't your traditional corner bagel shop; rather, it’s a concept built around the simple, yet profound, pleasure of a warm bagel, fresh out of the oven. While New York is certainly a city of endless bagel options, PopUp Bagels distinguishes itself by focusing on immediate freshness and a unique presentation that redefines what a bagel experience can be.
PopUp Bagels brings a novel approach to the beloved New York staple. Instead of the typical toasted and prepped bagel, their philosophy centers on serving bagels that are "fresh out of the oven—warm, airy, and incredibly soft." This emphasis on immediate freshness creates a bagel that is closer to a warm, artisan bread, offering a comforting and uniquely satisfying texture. This approach invites New Yorkers to experience the bagel in its purest, most nascent form, paired with thoughtfully curated spreads. One notable highlight, as praised by a customer, is their "special grape jelly," which possesses a "unique, almost homemade quality" that complements the warm bagels beautifully.
While some might consider it "overhyped," PopUp Bagels undoubtedly offers a unique spin on a classic. Its multiple locations across the city, including the one near Central Park, make it accessible to various neighborhoods. The concept of minimal seating and a focus on quick service caters to the fast-paced New York lifestyle, making it ideal for a grab-and-go delicious treat. For those open to a different kind of bagel encounter—one that prioritizes warmth, softness, and intriguing spreads—PopUp Bagels provides a memorable and comforting culinary moment amidst the bustling urban environment.

For New Yorkers, a city famously proud of its bagels, PopUp Bagels on the Upper East Side offers a distinctive and compelling reason to visit. While some may find it "over hyped" or prefer a more traditional toasted bagel, its suitability for locals lies precisely in its unique approach and how it caters to certain urban preferences. Firstly, the concept of serving bagels "fresh out of the oven—warm, airy, and incredibly soft" provides a comforting and novel experience. In a city where quick and fresh food is paramount, receiving a warm bagel immediately after it’s baked is a luxury that many will appreciate, offering a different textural pleasure compared to the widely available toasted options. This focus on immediate warmth transforms the bagel into a warm bread-like treat, which for some, might be exactly what they are craving.
Secondly, the "special grape jelly" and other unique spreads demonstrate a commitment to elevating the simple bagel. New Yorkers are often open to new culinary experiences and creative pairings, and a spread with a "unique, almost homemade quality" adds an unexpected layer of delight. This attention to detail in their accompaniments sets PopUp Bagels apart from the standard cream cheese offerings found elsewhere. It provides a reason to seek them out for something beyond the ordinary.
The location at 1457 3rd Ave on the Upper East Side, near Central Park, is also highly convenient and suitable for locals. With easy access to major subway lines (4, 5, 6) and various bus routes, PopUp Bagels is seamlessly integrated into the daily commute or weekend plans of many Manhattan residents. Its quick service model and limited seating cater perfectly to the fast-paced New York lifestyle, allowing for a swift grab-and-go experience without significant delay. This efficiency is a critical factor for busy locals.
While the minimum purchase of 3 bagels and associated cost might give some pause, for those seeking a high-quality, uniquely warm, and freshly baked bagel experience with intriguing spreads, PopUp Bagels offers a compelling proposition. It provides a comforting and delicious treat that, while perhaps not fitting everyone's traditional definition of a New York bagel, certainly carves out its own niche. For the adventurous New Yorker looking for a fresh take on a classic, or simply a warm, comforting bite, PopUp Bagels is definitely worth a visit.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- I recently had the chance to visit pop-up bagel and it did not disappoint. The bagels were fresh out of the oven—warm, airy, and incredibly soft. The flavor was spot-on, with a perfect balance of chewy texture and subtle richness. What really took the experience to the next level, though, was the special grape jelly they served alongside. It had a unique, almost homemade quality to it that paired beautifully with the bagels. It’s a simple pleasure, but it’s hard to beat a warm, flavorful bagel with an amazing spread. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a comforting, delicious treat! March 07 · Michelle Case
- It’s definitely over hyped bagel store they do have multiple locations across the city. I have been to the one which is close to the Central Park. They did have a small line but it moved quick not much of a seating area. You have to choose a minimum of 3 bagels which is $13+tax you can choose one cream cheese as a selection. Was it worth the money and effort I am not sure, Newyork has many options this shouldn’t be the top of the list in my opinion. It’s not toasted bagel it’s just hot fresh out of the oven more like eating a warm bread with cream cheese. March 08 · Akhila Yennam
- Their poppyseed and everything bagels are exceptionally tasty. Also in love with the current schmear on rotation: the Calabrian chili butter…divine!!! (And it’s not too spicy. It’s got just enough kick to make having the bagel fun.) March 21 · Simran Purokayastha
- Who doesn’t love a fresh, hot bagel?! We ordered the Sesame, Everything and Salt bagels with Chive schmear. Did not disappoint, it was worth the 10 minute wait. There was a line, but it moved fast. You may think the bagel flavor options are limited, but that’s the key to get, fresh bagels. There are varied options for the schmears. All options will not disappoint! There is only one table, it’s best to plan to eat somewhere else, but not too far away, you’ll want your bagels warm. July 20 · Jenn G
- Easily one of the best bagels I’ve had. Fresh and simple done the way bagels should be. Super friendly staff in a high energy environment with the music pumping. June 15 · Chris Sosnowski
