It is important for potential visitors to note that while the historical reputation of the Heinemann name is one of high quality, modern-day product experiences can vary, and customers are encouraged to research the current offerings and ingredients before purchase.

What is Worth Choosing
Choosing The Danish Baker From Heinemann's is, in many ways, an acknowledgment of Chicago's rich bakery history. For Illinois residents, the Heinemann's name carries significant weight and nostalgia, connecting current customers to a tradition of quality and classic recipes that stretch back almost a century. The chance to visit an operation that continues this legacy, particularly one specializing in Danish-style pastries and coffeecakes, is a draw for those who value heritage in their food choices.

Therefore, this bakery is worth choosing for the sake of convenience and a connection to a beloved Chicago institution, but patrons should be mindful to sample their on-site offerings to determine if the current products meet their standards for traditional, high-quality baking. It remains a relevant local stop for those seeking a quick treat and a link to the city's past.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Just got a Heinemanns coffee cake at Jewel.Literally the WORST - DRYEST - TASTELESS - MADE OF CHEAP GARBAGE INGREDIENTS I've ever had.PURE GARBAGE.They were 99 cents so I got two of them. Strawberry cheese. It was like eating chemicals. Nothing real or fresh in there. All garbage fake processed chemicals. Nothing natural. Even the strawberry was 100% fake and with food coloring and 100% corn syrup. Not a strawberry in sight.Never buying again. They have obviously gone a different direction of the years.
April 07 · chevywaldoSimply out of respect to the old bakery that was once attached to the Dominick's I worked at. I will come and visit this place and do a proper review but I don't think any bakery deserves a trash rating like this has. Find out the ingredients before you shove something in your mouth people. Especially if you have allergies!
February 10 · Chris AndaI just had a severe allergic reaction to an apple fritter from Mariano’s. My throat started to swell up three or four bites into it, and I choked on a piece and it got caught in my throat and I kept coughing up and spitting up until it finally came out, but it was horrific. I don’t know what they’ve done but it’s not pretty. I’m guessing it’s canola oil because I’m allergic to it, but I can’t find ingredients anywhere.
October 29 · Michelle DiGiacomoTerribly disappointed. This was a great bakery. Chose it over the Jewel brand. Pondered over an apricot, cherry, or "pecan coffee cake." Reminisced on my childhood and Heinemann's bakery and chose the pecan favorite. Heinemann's had a branch out in Northlake, Illinois. There were only 7 pecans on the entire cake. Many strips cut had no nuts, so why was it labeled as "pecan?" Then had to wonder how much apricot or cherry would have been then on the other coffee cakes. Will chose differently in the future.
March 28 · Victor VictoriaHorrible!! What has happened to this iconic Chicago bakery! Coffee cakes are now half their size and cost over $5.00! They are dry and no filling in them hardly at all! Is someone purposely trying to run this once famous Chicago bakery into the ground? Your doing a good job at it!!
