The Orangery Introduce
Hello, fellow Mainers! There’s something truly special about a local bakery that pours passion and expertise into every single creation. In our beloved state of Maine, where community and quality are highly valued, discovering a spot that elevates everyday baked goods into an art form is a real treat. Today, we're focusing on a gem that has captivated the palates of many in Waterville: The Orangery. While their journey has seen recent shifts, their reputation for exquisite baked goods remains strong, making them a noteworthy part of our local culinary scene.
The Orangery embarked on a mission to revive the tradition of freshly baked, naturally leavened bread and viennoiserie (the French term for pastries like croissants) in our community. Their inspiration came from the simple yet profound experience of witnessing the French tradition of picking up a fresh baguette from a neighborhood shop daily. This dedication to authentic methods and fresh ingredients is evident in the enthusiastic reviews from their customers. The name "The Orangery" itself evokes a vision of warmth, beauty, and the delightful scent of citrus blossoms, hinting at the elevated experience they aim to provide.
What truly sets The Orangery apart, as highlighted by multiple patrons, is the exceptional quality and flavor of their baked goods. Customers consistently praise their croissants, with one reviewer noting they were reminded of those eaten in Quebec – a high compliment indeed! The "crispy, flaky lamination" and "beautifully melted Swiss cheese" of their Swiss Croissant left one person completely captivated, even when not hungry. However, a particular standout for many is their "jalapeño cheddar loaf," described as "bread perfection" with a "crispy crust on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside and the flavor…*chef’s kiss*." Such glowing testimonials underline The Orangery's commitment to artisanal baking, delivering products that are not just good, but truly memorable and worth seeking out for yourself, for special events, or even as gifts for friends and family.
It is important for our local community to be aware that The Orangery has, as of recent information, temporarily stepped back from baking indefinitely at their current stage of life. This means new orders are currently closed. However, their impact on the local baking scene and the high praise they've received make them a significant establishment worth recognizing. Their website indicates a long-term vision to combine their interests in making and growing food, hoping to create a larger space of respite and beauty in the future. Their journey is a testament to the passion that drives Maine's local food producers.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I highly recommend The Orangery. My order was ready on time, and everything we tried was delicious. The croissants reminded me of the ones I ate in Quebec. The stand out for me, though, was the jalapeño cheddar loaf…it was bread perfection, crispy crust on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside and the flavor…*chef’s kiss*. I will order again for myself, for a special event and as gifts for friends and family.
October 29 · Amy LevesqueI was introduced to The Orangery when my daughter gave me a beautiful Swiss Croissant. I had just eaten dinner so was not hungry at all. As we chatted I took a nibble - perfection; then another - the crispy, flaky lamination; then another - the beautifully melted Swiss cheese! Soon half of it was gone! I went online and ordered the seed rolls. Next will be an assortment of croissants. Keep up the amazing baking.
May 02 · Jan CThe Orangery is amazing! I feel so lucky to have access to well made and delicious fresh croissants and fresh bread. Ordering and paying is simple on an easy to navigate website and pick up is easy too! And great tip, it all freezes well and tastes just a delicious when thawed!
November 28 · Elizabeth FortinAbsolutely delicious! The cinnamon rolls I ordered were a fantastic texture and the olive sourdough had a lovely crust and a citrusy zing. Plus the experience of pick up is charming!
August 30 · Maura KrauseAndrew is a wonderful and very professional baker! His croissant (both kinds) are buttery, flaky, crunchy, and beautiful --like the ones we've had in France. We took the pull-apart rolls (also buttery) to a big Thanksgiving dinner and they loved them. Highly recommend Andrew and The Orangery.
