Woodblock Bakery Introduce
For residents across Oregon, particularly those seeking a local, high-quality spot that seamlessly blends artisanal baking with expert coffee preparation, Woodblock Bakery in Portland stands out as a genuine local gem. Identifying proudly as a small business, this establishment operates across three key specialties: a classic Bakery, a welcoming Coffee shop, and a dedicated Espresso bar. It occupies a unique space in the local culinary scene, having taken over a location previously cherished by another well-known café, and has successfully delivered a replacement that is not only "as good" but brings its own distinct and compelling identity.
The bakery’s connection to the larger Woodblock Chocolate brand is a significant element of its charm and quality. As noted by patrons, it is Woodblock Chocolate's own dedicated cafe, which means the atmosphere, menu, and overall focus benefit from a high standard of ingredient quality and craft. It’s a place where the smells of freshly baked Cinnamon Rolls mingle with the distinct, rich aroma of high-quality cocoa, creating an irresistible sensory experience for any Oregonian seeking a moment of indulgence. Offering a full range of coffee options, Woodblock Bakery ensures that whether a customer is in search of a quick Drip Coffee to start the workday or a rich, expertly pulled Macchiato, their needs are met with precision and warmth. The commitment to being a small, community-focused entity ensures a personalized and high-quality experience that large chains simply cannot match.
Woodblock Bakery is conveniently located at 1715 NE 17th Ave, Portland, OR 97212, USA. This placement in a highly desirable and accessible neighborhood ensures that it is a practical destination for residents throughout the Portland area and surrounding Oregon communities. The location itself contributes significantly to the delightful experience, particularly concerning ambiance and convenience.
A key highlight of the bakery’s setting, frequently praised by patrons, is the exceptional interior environment. The space is filled with "natural light in the seating area," creating a bright, airy, and inviting atmosphere that encourages lingering and conversation. This is complemented by a viewing experience unlike any other: patrons can enjoy the "sights and smells of chocolate being made on the other side of the glass," directly connecting the finished baked goods and coffee drinks to the source of one of their core ingredients. While specific details on physical accessibility are not provided, the general welcome and openness of the space suggest a commitment to a comfortable experience for all. A major convenience factor noted by the local community is its schedule; the bakery "opens earlier," providing "great hours for us who work pre-8am!" This commitment to early opening times makes it an ideal and reliable stop for Oregon commuters and early risers who need both high-quality sustenance and a quick service before the workday begins.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Cute spot! I got a cinnamon roll which was very good, but it didn’t get heated up all the way through and would have benefited from some cream cheese frosting.
September 27 · Elise DixonI was worried after Spella Cafe left this space that its replacement wouldn’t be as good, but Woodblock Bakery delivered - it’s Woodblock Chocolate’s own bakery and coffee cafe that also sells all the Woodblock chocolates.Still love the ambiance with all the natural light in the seating area, the sights and smells of chocolate being made on the other side of the glass, the fast WiFi, relatively uncrowded cafe, and its coffee/baked good options are delicious.Another bonus is it opens earlier - great hours for us who work pre-8am!
September 07 · Kevin LavenThe new bakery at Woodblock Chocolate is so good! I loved the vegetarian sausage roll, savory scone, and the brown butter cookies best. The coffee and chai are both unique - it’s a small PNW roaster new to town for the coffee. Everyone is friendly, there’s chocolate to take home, and a chocolate factory to check out. So glad to have the owner of the fantastic Sea Wolf in Seattle back in Portland, making delicious baked goods!
