What is Worth Choosing Antigua Bakery?
Antigua Bakery is a long-standing local institution in Phoenix, and for many Arizona residents, the establishment's longevity and reputation for baking are reasons to choose it. What is primarily worth choosing here is the convenience and the range of options available for both everyday treats and special occasion centerpieces. The ability to quickly pop in for a fresh pastry or loaf of bread, facilitated by the free parking and quick visit planning, is a significant benefit to the busy local customer. Furthermore, the commitment to full physical accessibility makes it a welcoming establishment for everyone in the community.
However, an objective review of public data shows that while the bakery has a loyal, long-term customer base, it has also faced serious, documented challenges regarding order accuracy, communication on custom cake details (such as color limitations), and extremely concerning sanitation issues. One review, in particular, details a frustrating experience involving multiple errors on a pre-ordered, expensive custom cake, including incorrect flavor, frosting color, and decorations, leading to a significant delay and disappointment at a special event. Another review highlights a severe health safety concern involving an observation of a contaminant on a piece of bread, which the customer reported to the staff without feeling the situation was addressed adequately.
For an Arizona local considering a visit, it is worth knowing that the bakery offers great convenience and is capable of providing delicious baked goods, as noted by the family who loved their first birthday cake for its softness and freshness. However, prospective customers, particularly those placing custom or high-value orders, should exercise caution and be highly vigilant. It is strongly advisable to confirm all custom cake details in explicit writing, request firm details on ingredient and decoration availability, and thoroughly inspect all custom items immediately upon pickup before leaving the store. For general in-store purchases, customers should also be mindful of the reported sanitation issues. Choosing Antigua Bakery should be done with a balanced awareness of its positive features—convenient location, accessibility, and reputation for baking—alongside the documented need for improved quality control and operational standards, particularly with complex orders and health safety protocols.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I have been a loyal customer of your establishment for as long as I can remember. My family frequents your business, and I’ve recommended you to numerous friends and neighbors over the years. Unfortunately, I am writing to express my deep disappointment with a recent experience that has caused me to reconsider my support. This is the second time I’ve received an incorrect cake order. The first incident involved a cake for my partner’s daughter; the decoration did not match what was requested, though the issue was acknowledged and corrected. However, today’s experience was particularly frustrating and disheartening.I placed my cake order a week in advance, clearly communicated the design specifications, provided reference photos, and reviewed and signed the order form to confirm everything was correct. When I arrived at 2:00 PM to pick up the cake—despite being told earlier that it was ready by 12:00 PM—I discovered it had not been made according to the agreed design.I immediately brought this to the team’s attention, and they assured me the issue would be fixed. However, after taking the cake back, the corrections made were even worse. I showed the staff the reference image again and even offered my phone to assist them. I was then informed the original baker was not present and that was the reason for the error, but I find this an unacceptable excuse for such a significant oversight. In addition, at no point during the ordering process was I informed that silver icing or decoration was unavailable. This lack of transparency is unprofessional, especially for a custom order costing over $122.94 I did not leave your store until 3:30 PM—well over an hour after arriving. When I arrived at the event and finally opened the cake, I was even more disappointed to find that the frosting color and decorations were incorrect, and the cake flavor and internal details did not match what I had ordered. This was not only frustrating but also embarrassing, as the cake was meant for a special surprise celebration.Given the circumstances and the poor quality of service and product, I am formally requesting a refund. I hope this issue will be taken seriously, as my experience does not reflect the high standards I’ve come to expect from your business.
April 12 · Evelyn CatalanI’m a frequent buyer here but after my experience i will Definitely not be going back! I went In Monday to place a order for my older daughter birthday, my younger daughter wanted bread so we headed to the window my daughter pointed out what she wanted when i was Going to get the piece of bread i saw Something moving it took me seconds to visualize what i was Actually seeing, which was a worm!!! Alive and moving outside the bread! I was Disgusted and told my daughter we are definitely not buying anything i asked for my refund deposit back. I called Later that day asking to speak to the owner was told i would Get a call back never happened. They were still open as if nothing had happened i told Them the least they should have done was close for the day deep clean everything and find the mistake and person responsible. It is a huge safety hazard!!!! Never will be going back or recommending to anyone!!
September 09 · Aritzy CabreraMy daughter's 1st birthday cake it was delicious! It was filling inside (strawberry), and the bread was so soft. The day after eating this cake tasted as fresh as the same day it took us 3 days to finish this cake and the freshness of it they have the best flavor! They also sell breas inside and the prices are very reasonable.
August 14 · Cynthia Berenice Fuentes GalindoSmall place, baked goods are good but not much variety. I didn't see any Mexican chucherias/snacks which I was kinda looking forward to. But staff was very friendly.
June 09 · Blanca WalkerI paid well over $100 for this cake. No decoration done only topped it with the decoration I paid for. I (and you) could have easily bought this cake at Costco or Frys for only $25 and added the decoration on top. I think the pricing is ridiculous if this is what you are getting. I will never come here again. Very upsetting... I feel robbed.. I recommend you save money and buy your decoration and cake at Costco!
