Bones Bagels Introduce
In the dynamic and highly competitive culinary landscape of San Francisco, Bones Bagels has quickly carved out a distinctive niche, capturing the attention of local users and critics alike. Operating as a specialized bakery, the shop has moved beyond the traditional bagel-making process to introduce a compelling and unique sourdough twist on the classic treat. This foundational difference provides a noticeable sour tang and a deeply satisfying chew, setting it apart from other bagel offerings in the Bay Area.
Located in the desirable Noe Valley neighborhood, Bones Bagels is renowned for its commitment to simplicity, quality, and flavor innovation. The bakery focuses on naturally leavened sourdough bagels, which are often described as having a pleasant sourness and a perfect dual texture—crunchy on the outside while maintaining a fluffy, moist chew on the inside. This artisanal focus extends beyond the bagels themselves; the shop is also highly regarded for its housemade cream cheeses, the generous use of local produce, and a variety of freshly made sweets. The concept originated from the owner's passion for combining the best aspects of sourdough bread-making with the universally loved bagel form, an endeavor that has resulted in what many are calling a new "gold standard" for the category. The atmosphere is generally described as friendly and laid-back, contributing to a welcoming experience that has rapidly cultivated a loyal local following.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The lox bagel sandwich really floored me. I can’t stop thinking about it and I’m so full and already craving another one. Perfect balance of savory, sweet and salty. I haven’t been surprised by a classic like that in a while, but the depth of flavor really shook me. Highly recommend.I wish I got a pick of the lemon poppyseed cake as well, because it was no less delicious! Light, with a perfect crumb. So yummy. The staff are all so lovely. Definitely check this place out!!
September 19 · Collette KeatingFinally got to try this joint and it didn’t disappoint! Loved how crunchy the bagels were on the outside while maintaining a fluffy, moist chew on the inside. We were lucky to snatch one of the bagel dogs before they sold out and we think we found the gold standard for how all bagel dogs should be…we will be back!!
July 06 · Christopher ChungPretty good new bagel spot in Noe Valley. They put in a lot of thought into sourcing their ingredients. The sandwich menu is limited (1 vegetarian option + smoked salmon bagel) and on the pricey side but solid. I’d skip the balsamic on the veggie bagel since it covered the fresh ingredients.
September 21 · Sylwia KD E L I C I O U S.For the purists; the bagels are on the chewy side, and the sour stands out. But if you’re willing to try something creative this doesn’t disappoint. The warm everything bagel has a kick to it that is so good. The sandwich toppings were perfect. And even the cold brew hit.A welcome addition to the neighborhood.
June 28 · Joseph BurgerWe ordered the sourdough cookie and the salmon bagel on an everything bagel. The menu is very simple, which I appreciate—especially for a new spot that’s still refining and perfecting their food. The cookie had a distinct sourdough texture—crumbly, not too hard, not too soft. It reminded me of biting into a slice of sourdough bread, which was unexpected but interesting. Now, the bagel—the main event. First bite had a nice crisp exterior with a spongey, chewy center. The toppings—olive oil, red onions, and cucumber—were fresh and well-balanced on the sandwich. That said, they accidentally gave me a veggie sandwich instead of the salmon, but it wasn’t a big deal.Overall, not the best bagel I’ve ever had in SF. HOWEVER, because of its incredibly convenient location, I’d still rank it in my top 5 bagel spots in the city. Worth checking out if you’re in the area.
