Doan's Bakery Introduce
The culinary landscape of Southern California is rich with hidden gems, but few sparkle with the kind of star-studded history and neighborhood charm as Doan’s Bakery in Woodland Hills. For decades, this family-owned bakery has quietly been creating memorable, high-quality desserts, operating initially as a wholesale supplier and eventually opening its retail doors to the public. However, its reputation for baking excellence exploded onto the national stage thanks to one incredibly famous, incredibly delicious creation: the White Chocolate Coconut Bundt Cake, affectionately nicknamed the “Tom Cruise Cake.”
Established in 1983 by Karen Doan, who was a self-taught baker, and now operated by her son Eric and his wife Carrie, Doan's Bakery remains a testament to dedication, quality ingredients, and a commitment to family heritage. Located right in the heart of the San Fernando Valley, this bakery has become an indispensable part of the local community, serving up everything from everyday sweets to show-stopping custom wedding cakes. For locals across Los Angeles and even beyond, a visit to this unassuming spot on Ventura Boulevard is a pilgrimage for a taste of Hollywood’s most coveted holiday treat—or to explore their extensive menu of equally tempting baked goods.
Whether you’re a long-time California resident looking for the perfect dessert for your next event or a curious foodie eager to try a dessert that has received national media attention, Doan's Bakery offers a sweet experience that promises to be both rich and satisfying. It’s more than just a bakery; it’s a piece of Los Angeles history where every cake is baked with genuine love and a commitment to not "skimp on ingredients," a philosophy that has defined its success for over a quarter-century.

What is Worth Choosing at Doan’s Bakery
For any local in the California region—or anyone passing through Woodland Hills—a visit to Doan's Bakery is an absolute must, and what is truly worth choosing is their legendary specialty. While the bakery offers a full range of pies, brownies, cookies, and various other Bundt cake flavors like Carrot and Chocolate Fudge, the experience is incomplete without trying the item that has garnered international fame and helped sustain the small business through challenging times:
The White Chocolate Coconut Bundt Cake.
This is the definitive choice for first-time visitors and a consistent favorite among repeat customers. It's the buttery, moist sponge cake—sometimes described as a pound cake base—studded with sweet white chocolate chunks. What elevates it to "legendary" status is the generous layer of thick, rich cream cheese frosting and the abundance of toasted coconut flakes. As one satisfied customer noted, the cream cheese and abundant white chocolate is truly the "creme de la creme."
For those mindful of the richness or seeking a solo treat, the individual-sized mini-Bundt cake version of the White Chocolate Coconut Cake is an excellent option. Priced reasonably for a rich, generously sized portion, it allows customers to experience the moistness and decadence without committing to a full 10-inch cake. Customers often find the mini version to be perfectly moist and satisfying. While the cake is undeniably rich and sweet—a note that is often mentioned in reviews—it consistently lives up to the hype and is an indulgent treat that justifies the drive to this iconic San Fernando Valley institution. Whether you get it for yourself or as a gift, choosing the White Chocolate Coconut Cake is choosing a true taste of Hollywood legend, baked with decades of family tradition.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Going for manicure around 3 miles away and taking advantage to make a stop at Doans Bakery, which apparently was said offering Tom Cruise's 'annual Christmas gift'. The cute bakery literally reminded me of typical long-standing one, with simple design that probably has stayed for years. Only 2 sets of tables available with most people only came for 'TO-GO's.I came just right past noon and had quite limited options but still saw some of their signature Tom Cruise cake available. It was moist sponge cake topped with super generous cream cheese frosting with chunks of white chocolate and shredded coconut. Priced at $9, I would say it's pretty big and rich that some people might consider sharing for 2. I'm a sweet tooth and for me I finished one myself but surely felt pretty sugar-high after. Despite some people complaining it being dry, the mini version I got didn't seem to be the case at all. I thought it worth the hype; the sponge cake could be just okay, but the cream cheese with abundant white chocolate was surely the creme de la creme. I wished I was on Tom Cruise's annual Christmas gift list!
July 26 · Jessica GabrielaWent here for the famous tom cruise cake. I loved that the cake is in individual sizes and reasonable prices. The taste was not as incredible as all the hype. If I came back I would definitely try the fruit cake because that looked pretty delicious.
April 16 · Jessica JeonCake was very mid, in my opinion. My family was enjoying it until we found two hairs in the white chocolate coconut cake. We had to immediately stop and toss it. Very unfortunate, we drove over an hour to purchase these bundt cakes. Hopefully, no one else has an experience like this.
May 31 · Dylan GoldbergDoan’s worked with us on our wedding cake and went above and beyond in delivery and making a bit extra cake so we were able to enjoy it the next day.Thank you Doan’s team you are amazing!
September 16 · earthgod117Came from Australia to try the famous cruise cake. Had to be done. We got the cupcake version of the coconut cake which was unreal arguably better than the Original. We of course then got an 8 inch Bundt cake to go and sat in and ate a mini Bundt cake. All unreal and very worth the trip. The staff were also so lovely, I didn’t get the young girls name behind the counter but she was so willing for a chat and answer all our questions about the famous bakery and the baker came out and said hello. What a lovely team and lovely baked goods if we were staying longer we would have loved to try more so we’ll just have to come back! Thanks again :)
