Empire Baking Co. Inwood Village Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For over three decades, Empire Baking Co. has established itself as Dallas's premier destination for truly artisan bread, and the Inwood Village location serves as the flagship retail storefront for this celebrated Texas institution. Opened in 1992, Empire Baking Co. brought a commitment to natural, slow-fermented, hand-shaped bread to North Texas, filling a culinary gap that was previously only addressed on the coasts. This is not a typical industrial bakery; the philosophy here is that 'less is more,' prioritizing minimal, high-integrity ingredients, natural starters, and traditional methods, resulting in breads that are nutrient-dense, flavorful, and free of preservatives.
The Inwood Village location functions as a friendly, neighborhood cafe and bakery, offering more than just loaves. It provides a curated selection of grab-and-go options perfect for a quick lunch or an early morning breakfast. Local Texans frequent this spot for their famous Sourdough Round, a house staple since the beginning, alongside an impressive daily selection of hand-formed loaves and European butter pastries. The ambiance is designed for a quick, efficient visit, yet the quality of the products invites customers to slow down and savor every handcrafted bite. Empire Baking Co. has a long history of being recognized as a 'Best Bakery' in Dallas, a testament to their unwavering commitment to the craft of bread-making.
The bakery’s unique focus on artisan bread quality is what truly sets it apart. The entire process, from mixing dough in giant, home-style mixers to hand-cutting and shaping each loaf, is done with remarkable consistency. This labor of love, which sometimes takes 24 hours a day to perfect, ensures that the bread is meant to be enjoyed fresh, typically within 48 hours of baking, guaranteeing a quality level that mass-produced alternatives simply cannot match. For Texans who appreciate the warmth and integrity of true craftsmanship, Empire Baking Co. is more than a bakery—it's a tradition.

What is Worth Choosing
For Texans, especially Dallas residents, Empire Baking Co. is worth choosing not just as a place to buy bread, but as a commitment to quality, tradition, and local integrity. The core value here is the distinction between ordinary bread and true artisan bread.
The number one reason to visit is the authentic, naturally leavened sourdough bread. Customers, including those with culinary backgrounds, consistently rave about the quality of the bread, specifically praising the delicious Sourdough Round and other unique varieties like the Jalapeño Cheese Sourdough and Raisin Pecan. Unlike mass-produced alternatives, Empire’s bread is a product of traditional, slow fermentation, which gives it a superior flavor profile, better texture, and a high level of protein, making it an excellent, healthier foundation for any meal.
Secondly, the Grab-and-Go lunch program is unparalleled for convenience and quality. Instead of a typical deli, you get a premium sandwich—like Peppered Turkey with Smashed Avocados and Roma Tomato—built on the very best bread in Dallas, often their signature Sourdough or Whole Wheat Farm Bread. This makes it a perfect solution for a quick, high-quality midday meal or a full catering spread.
While the feedback on certain pastries, like the cinnamon roll, suggests the bread is the indisputable star, the overall offering of a charming local bakery with exceptional artisan craftsmanship and a wide range of convenience options (Curbside Pickup, Delivery, Wheelchair Accessibility, Free Parking) solidifies Empire Baking Co. Inwood Village as a beloved Dallas landmark and the definitive source for those who believe real, honest bread is the staff of life. Choosing Empire is choosing a decades-long commitment to baking excellence in the heart of Texas.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Empire Baking Co. is a cute little bakery tucked into the Inwood shopping center. I grabbed a croissant—flaky and tasty, though I wish they’d toasted it. They’ve got a great selection of baked goods—sourdough, sandwiches, bagels, muffins. The chocolate zucchini slice caught my eye—definitely coming back to try that next time.
April 16 · SamThis place is really good at making breads. I can’t say enough good things about the bread that I’ve tried there. I went to culinary and wine school for 10 years so I’m very very knowledgeable about this, but I tried their cinnamon roll and I’m not trying to sound bad or anything, but even the students in my class made better cinnamon rolls than these people the cinnamon rolls not sweet enough. It’s dry as a bone there’s almost no cinnamon inside of it and there’s way too much bread. They should probably hire someone like me to come in there and consult with them to fix this. I know they have some people that like this, but these are not culinary professionals. These are just people that have money or old people who don’t know the difference so please if you wanna have a very amazing bakery to our professionals. Don’t sit there and roll their eyes learn how to make sweets as well as your bread cause your breads are amazing like you guys knocked it out of the park. I came from the San Francisco bar and your sourdough is delicious. I can’t say enough good things, but you need to fire the pastry chef and talk to someone like me because I could save you because this is this is sad like even Costco is better like it’s sad. Shame on you. You can do better on that but the bread you deserve a damn platinum metal
September 06 · Jason EklundI heard about this bakery from when I dined in a Lake Highlands Cafe. So we decided to make the trip over to Empire baking Co. It is a nice little place, they offer a variety of items from baked goods (mainly breads and a few cookies and scones/muffins.). They have some items in coolers like sandwiches and drinks. Shelves with some marmalades and jams. Very nice and clean inside. The staff was very friendly and easy to talk with. The sell around 14-16 different kind of breads, some notable ones we saw, sourdough rounds, white loaf, jalapeno cheese sourdough. We bought a pecan raisin bread, they told us they did not use an added sugar in it which intrigued my wife and I. We got in the car and couldn't wait to try it and wow. Between the flavor and the texture it was really good and the raisins did a great job added just enough sweetness to bring everything together. We will definitely be back to try other items they sell.
November 24 · JackThe most memorable thing about this visit was the pecan wheel pastry and the ice tea.I’m still kind of surprised, but this was the best iced tea I’ve ever had.The pecan wheel was so delicate and packed full of flavor
May 16 · Alex GrossmanEmpire Baking Company is such an incredible family owned bakery and cafe. Learning how the bread is made and all the amazing ingredients they use is astonishing! They have so many bread options, salad plates, side salads, sandwiches and sweets. I love everything they make! Everything is made by hand and it makes my mouth water just thinking about it! My current favorite sandwich is a new addition called the Pastrami Pimento Sandwich. The sandwich comes with cheddar cheese, pimento, green & red onion, dill, mayonnaise, pastrami, pickles & whole grain mustard on Jalapeño Cheddar Bread. It’s definitely a must try! I definitely recommend!
