Flour Garden Bakery Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For over two decades, Flour Garden Bakery has been a quiet cornerstone of Richmond, Virginia’s culinary landscape. Since 2003, this establishment has built its reputation by supplying some of the area's highest-rated restaurants and grocers with fine, handcrafted breads, rolls, and pastries. While it operates as a full-fledged Wholesale bakery—a provider to the local food industry—it also generously opens its doors for direct-to-public retail purchases, making its exceptional products accessible to every Virginia resident.
Located on West Leigh Street, Flour Garden Bakery is a hidden gem that many locals discover through their favorite restaurants. As one happy customer noted, their products, like the delicious baguettes, are often found in respected local spots such as Yellow Umbrella and Stella’s. The realization that the bakery itself is open to the public is a welcome secret for any Richmond-area food enthusiast.
The core of Flour Garden's success lies in its commitment to traditional, labor-intensive methods and high-quality ingredients. They focus on delivering great value and great service, a principle that has guided their long success. The specialty lies in the perfect balance of texture and flavor: their sandwich rolls, for instance, are celebrated for being "soft, yet sturdy and perfect for sandwiches," while their sweets, such as the famous cinnamon rolls, are described as "flaky and incredibly tasty (and big)." This combination of industrial-grade sturdiness for wholesale use and irresistible flavor for retail indulgence defines the Flour Garden experience.
While the primary business is wholesale, retail customers are treated to the same level of care and quality, often benefiting from direct access to a wider range of fresh breads and pastries. This dedication to both the commercial client and the individual consumer makes Flour Garden a unique and invaluable asset to the RVA food scene.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Flour Garden is my favorite Richmond bakery. Their hoagie and sub rolls are soft, yet sturdy and perfect for sandwiches. Their sweets, like the cinnamon rolls are flaky and incredibly tasty (and big) .*Edit, I'm in love with their soft hot dog rolls now too!The staff is always kind and helpful. Definitely will keep coming back. Also their products can be found in stores around town so google where to find them.
July 26 · Adam RichardsonI get these bread in Yellow Umbrella and Stella’s. These baguettes are absolutely delicious. I didn’t know the bakery was open to public. Highly recommended!
May 04 · Debbie MerI used to go to 8 1/2 on strawberry Street because they had the best subs on torpedo rolls made by flour garden.About 5 years ago or so the restaurant switched to a cheap sub roll akin to Subway, and I stopped buying subs from them.ThoseThose to rolls were phenomenal with a little bit of pull and chewc and they never got soggy, and now the rolls used are nothing close to the quality of those torpedo rolls that seem nowhere in existence now, and has completely changed the product.if anyone knows where to get these torpedo rolls please let me know. Flour garden never returns calls or messages so they are no good for this information
February 04 · ScottBought some baguettes from Sheilds market in Richmond to try and they were terrible. Stale, tasted like a freezer and flavorless. They claim to bake their bread every morning fresh but it tastes like it has been sitting in a freezer for weeks! Gross. False advertising. If you come across their bread don't waste your money. Talked to gut that used to work there and he said they would bake their bread days before and then freeze it and sometimes just leave it sitting out and that the bakery itself is dirty and their equipment is not cleaned or well taken care of.
January 06 · ecrost84I only had their sandwich rolls, but they made wonderful hoagies.
