Frankie B's Bakery Introduce
For those of us in Connecticut, a special kind of excitement comes with the discovery of a new local spot, or the refreshing change of an old favorite. In the small but vibrant community of Broad Brook, residents have recently experienced a pleasant surprise with the transformation of a beloved bakery. Formerly known as Frankie B's Bakery, this delightful little shop has now come under new ownership and is operating as Chan Bakeshop. This change, according to enthusiastic patrons, has been for the better, bringing with it a renewed sense of passion and an array of fantastic new treats. The new owner, Chan Graham, is a classically trained chef with a rich culinary background, and she is channeling her expertise into creating an exceptional menu. While the name may be new, the friendly, community-focused spirit of the place remains, making it a must-visit destination for anyone in the region. This is a place where you can grab a quick and delicious breakfast or simply sit outside and enjoy a nice coffee and treat, all while feeling a part of something special and local.
The initial reviews of Chan Bakeshop are overwhelmingly positive, with customers praising not only the quality of the food but also the welcoming atmosphere. The shop is described as a "nice little shop" that, despite being "off the beaten path," is absolutely worth the visit. The new ownership has been a breath of fresh air, offering "excellent pastries and reasonably priced" items that are both visually appealing and incredibly tasty. This is the kind of local business that makes a community feel unique and vibrant. It's a place where a simple breakfast sandwich or a slice of banana bread is elevated into a memorable culinary experience. The new owner's generosity in offering samples, such as the "fantastic" and "extremely smooth and savory" cheesecake cup, demonstrates a commitment to winning over customers with genuine hospitality and superior products. It's clear that Chan Bakeshop is more than just a place to buy baked goods; it's a destination where great food and a friendly welcome come together to create a perfect start to the day.
Chan Bakeshop is conveniently located at 6 Wapping Rd, Broad Brook, CT 06016, USA. While one reviewer mentioned it being "off the beaten path," its location within the community is well-known and easily accessible to residents of Broad Brook and the surrounding areas. The small-town setting adds to the charm of the bakery, making the visit feel like a special outing rather than a quick errand. For those unfamiliar with the area, the address is easily navigable with GPS or online mapping services, ensuring a straightforward journey. The fact that the location allows for the possibility of enjoying a coffee and treat "outside" speaks to the shop's potential to be a pleasant spot for a morning or afternoon break. This accessibility and the potential for a relaxing visit are key factors that make Chan Bakeshop a perfect local spot for Connecticut residents.
The location’s character is an integral part of the bakeshop's identity. It's a place that feels connected to the local environment, offering a cozy and intimate atmosphere. While the interior is being spruced up and there's a wish for more seating, the current setup fosters a personal connection with the staff. For many locals, the appeal of a small, charming shop outweighs the convenience of a large, bustling one. The presence of potential outdoor seating near a river, as one customer suggested, could further enhance the experience, making it a true destination for families and friends to gather and enjoy the local scenery. This combination of a unique location and a friendly atmosphere ensures that Chan Bakeshop will continue to be a cherished part of the Broad Brook community.
Under the new ownership, Chan Bakeshop has expanded its offerings to provide a delightful and varied menu. While the bakery is still evolving, the services offered currently include:
Made-to-Order Breakfast Sandwiches: A highly praised offering, the breakfast sandwiches are a perfect way to start the day. They are made fresh and are a pleasant surprise for first-time visitors, noted for their excellent taste and quality.
Freshly Baked Goods: The shop features a rotating selection of homemade pastries, cakes, bagels, and breads. One customer specifically mentioned the delicious banana bread and the heavenly cheesecake cup, showcasing the variety and quality of the baked goods available.
Gourmet Coffee and Beverages: To complement their food menu, the bakery offers fresh brewed coffee and a selection of refrigerated beverages. This allows customers to enjoy a complete breakfast or a relaxing coffee break in one convenient location.
Takeaway and Outdoor Seating: The bakeshop is currently set up primarily for takeaway, but it also has space for a few indoor seats and additional outdoor seating, which is a great option for enjoying a coffee and treat on a nice day. This flexibility caters to both customers on the go and those looking to linger for a bit.
Chan Bakeshop's rising popularity is a result of several key features and highlights that set it apart from other bakeries in the region.
Superior Quality and Taste: The food is consistently described as "fantastic," "excellent," and "savory." The cheesecake cup, for instance, was praised for being "extremely smooth" and not too "cheesy or tart." This focus on flavor and texture is a huge draw for new and returning customers.
Exceptional and Friendly Service: The owner is highlighted for her pleasantness and for being welcoming and engaging. Her act of giving a sample of the cheesecake cup to a new customer is a perfect example of the genuine hospitality that makes the shop so inviting and encourages people to "highly recommend a visit."
Reasonable Pricing: One reviewer noted that the pastries are "reasonably priced." This makes the high-quality, homemade treats accessible to a wider range of customers, adding to the shop's appeal as a community-friendly establishment.
A New Culinary Vision: The new ownership brings a fresh perspective and a desire for continued improvement. The owner’s background and plans to potentially add new items like baguettes or sourdough loaves, and enhance the physical space, show a forward-thinking approach that excites the local community and promises an even better experience in the future.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1What a nice little shop! I got myself a breakfast sandwich and a banana bread with a coffee, and I really just enjoyed everything I had here. I spoke with the owner and found out that she is taking over shortly and changing the name to Chan Bakeshop. What a pleasant surprise when I bit into the sandwich for the first time. I highly recommend a visit here even though it's off the beaten path. Plan on taking my entire family there over the weekend. That's why the weather's still nice. We'll be able to sit outside and enjoy a nice coffee and treat. The owner gave me a sample of the cheesecake cup to try. This was fantastic as it wasn't too cheesy or tart, and ended up being extremely smooth and savory.
December 06 · Todd WhiteOwnership recently changed and boy was it for the better! Excellent pastries and reasonably priced. I mean, just look at them. I’m hoping they add baguettes or sourdough loaves, and sprucing up the place to be cuter inside or setting up picnic tables near the river might get people to stick around.
August 30 · James MacedoWaited 15 minutes for 2 breakfast sandwiches. Coffee station is self serve and there was barely enough ice in the machine for one drink. No public restroom either & outdoor seating by the road is LOUD (must be near construction company). Had high hopes but not impressed.
August 23 · Jessica MaitlandLackluster and too pricy. We have been excited to try this new spot in town but it was a let down. The sandwich and chips were fine but way overpriced. There were some nice looking desserts and the place is cute. Some of the other items in the display case did not look appetizing. We won’t be back.
June 02 · Heather A.I ordered two danishes: a regular cheese and a white chocolate raspberry custard. Both were buttery and flaky and contained a generous amount of filling. Fortunately, neither was too sweet. The bakery seems to prioritize sandwiches, but I went on a Tuesday, so perhaps the pastry variety is larger on the weekends. I recommend it, however.
