★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This place is a gem- it is so hard to find a real bagel place that still do things old school. The place is a no-nonsense, bagel-centric establishment.Personally think their everything and poppy bagels are unmatched. But I got some garlic bagels the other day to put together some lox and cream sandwich. They don’t make bagel sandwiches (cream cheese only) but don’t let that stop you.
December 18 · Harry KimI’ve always long for a good bagel shop in Flushing. I’ve heard about this place but never got a chance to try or the times we attempted it was already closed for the day. While it’s in Flushing, it’s still pretty far for me at least to get to. I had to take the bus. I could’ve walked, but it’s about 30 mins..I wasn’t sure what bagels were available by looking at the shelves behind the counter. I didn’t plain (which is what I would’ve got), so I got a plain sesame bagel ($1.95) and an everything bagel with cream cheese ($3.50). There is a menu board but most of it is blocked out, I guess they use to offer more spreads based on some of the google pictures..There wasn’t a lot of cream cheese spread on the bagel but enough to coat it. I wouldn’t preferred more. Would have loved to have some scallion too..The texture of the bagel was crisp on the outside and very chewy on the inside. I really liked the chewiness. The dough is on the denser side but I don’t mind it.. I personally love to rip the bagel and dip it into a spread, like how PopUp bagels are..However, I can’t say I liked the taste of the bagel. I’m not sure what kinda of flour is used but it doesn’t taste the same as the ones in the city, or even the ones in the markets. It’s not a bad tasting bagel but it’s not the taste I’m looking for in a bagel. If I lived close to this bagel, I would get it whenever I’m craving for a real bagel.
April 13 · Jessica LinThe best bagels absolutely, without a doubt, and I say this as a lifelong New Yorker! Making bagels the old fashioned method gets the owner out of bed before any other establishment. Their bagels have the legendary crunch and chewiness, and the taste has never changed. Please do not inquire about toasting; these are delicious just the way they are and equally delicious when reheated from frozen. The lady in front is very kind and thoughtful, yet she may come across as cold and unfriendly at first.CASH ONLY ESTABLISHMENT, DO NOT MISS OUT.
January 15 · AngieSame recipe since the day it began long before I was a thought in my mother's head. Been in the neighborhood all my life and this joints been here since the beginning. Even the same woman from 20 years ago running the show at the counter. Some of the best bagels in NYC a true top 3 contender Utopia has nothing on it. You're a fool to think so.Quick and to the point cash only old school New York bagels. You can't get it toasted, you'll find out why.
March 23 · Harry KelminsonMy son recently moved in down the street from JK Bakery and said "Dad. You have to try this place. They have the best bagels". Now, I grew up around Tuckahoe, Yonkers and NYC. I've had a lot of great bagels in my life. I never thought.. "you know where great bagels are made? Flushing." But it turns out that is exactly where they're made. I live in upstate NY now - near Albany - and it's tough to find a good bagel here. But the ones from JK in Flushing... Hearty but not super crisp and overdone on the crust. Chewy on the inside. Not really big, and not small. And the flavors - you know a good bagel when you don't have to toast it. And these definitely didn't have to be toasted. I asked for a dozen. Six sesame and six onion. You get three more said the lady behind the counter. Cinnamon raisin I said. Oh, those are the best, replied the lady. Water bagels, she said. Look back there - those are the ones we're prepping today for tomorrow. Fresh every day. I threw in a few extra for you. I got home and found 17 bagels in my bag. I think I had three of them the first hour after I got home. You don't go here for sandwiches or lox or whitefish salad. They don't have any of that. You go here for great bagels with great flavor.Anyway, if you can't tell - I highly recommend this place. I'll definitely be going back there many times.
