La Gitana bakery #4 Introduce
In the bustling, multicultural neighborhood of Jackson Heights, Queens, finding a truly authentic and unpretentious meal can be a rewarding experience. La Gitana Bakery #4 is one such place, a counter-order restaurant that has become a local favorite for its hearty and flavorful Colombian cuisine. This is a spot for those who appreciate slow-cooked, authentic food over a polished, commercial dining experience. For many New Yorkers, a place like La Gitana is a treasured find, a reminder of the rich and diverse culinary offerings that make Queens such a special borough. It’s a place where you can find genuine flavors and a taste of home.
The experience at La Gitana Bakery #4 is a testament to its focus on traditional, home-style cooking. The food, particularly the stewed meats, is praised for being slow-cooked in different sauces with vegetables, a process that ensures a deep and satisfying flavor. The Pollo guisado (stewed chicken) is a standout, consistently described as delicious by regulars. It's a place where a generous portion of chicken soup with rice can be had for an affordable price, and a full plate of Pollo guisado with rice, a veggie side, and sweet plantains offers incredible value. This focus on delicious, comforting food at a good price is a significant part of its appeal to the local community.
However, as with any hyper-local business, the experience can vary. A friendly and accommodating atmosphere is a highlight for many, particularly for those who speak some Spanish. The staff is noted for being super nice and willing to help ensure customers are happy, even with rudimentary Spanish. On the other hand, some customers have faced communication challenges due to language barriers, which is an important consideration for those who do not speak Spanish. There have also been instances of dissatisfaction with the food, with one customer noting that some items on the buffet appeared to have been sitting out for too long. This feedback, while critical, highlights the importance of visiting during peak times for the freshest food and being open to the counter-order style of the restaurant.
La Gitana Bakery #4 is located at 90-31 37th Ave, Jackson Heights, NY 11372, USA. This address places it in a prime spot on 37th Avenue, a vibrant and well-known commercial street in Jackson Heights. The neighborhood is celebrated for its bustling atmosphere and incredible diversity, making the bakery a part of a lively food scene. Its location on a major thoroughfare makes it a prominent and easily accessible destination for residents and visitors alike.
Accessibility is a key advantage of this location. For those using public transportation, 37th Avenue is well-served by numerous bus routes, and the bakery is within walking distance of several major subway stations. This includes the 74th Street-Broadway/Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue transit hub, which connects multiple subway lines and bus routes, making it a convenient stop for a large number of commuters. For those traveling by car, street parking can be a bit challenging in this busy neighborhood, but its central location makes it a known landmark. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This is a great counter order restaurant. I'm not sure what is wrong with everyone leaving 1 star reviews but you need to go to their little counter and look at the food to see what looks good that day. This is not the place to get grilled chicken breast because that's not the style that is good. Also, dark chicken meat is always more delicious so go make your little grilled chicken at home and stop thinking restaurants will cook it to your tastes when you go out.Their stewed meats are slow cooked in different sauces with vegetables. The Pollo guisado is always delicious, I've loved the chicken soup with cilantro and they have a delicious columbian drink called Agua de panela that is tart and refreshing. If you don't speak Spanish it might be hard to come here but if you speak rudimentary Spanish they are super nice and will try and make sure you are happy. Pay cash and it is cheaper.A huge chicken soup with rice is $9A huge plate of Pollo guisado with rice and a veggie side and sweet plantain is $12
March 11 · Elizabeth HoltThe lady at the counter didn't speak English. I looked at the picture on the door that said calinda "la gitana" thinking that was a dish. The women said si and kept waiting for something else. I had to muster all the Spanish I know along with gesture. At the end, I have to give up and pick from the buffet. Which is fine. It's Queens and I wouldn't insist people to speak English. The real problem was food. The beans and rice was about to go bad. It must've left on the warm buffet all day long. I wasn't about to get food poisoning, do I left it untouched. For $15.25, I'd expect a better food. I won't be returning, needles to say.
