Lands of Origin Introduce
Introduction / Overview
Nestled within the vibrant atmosphere of Seattle's iconic Pike Place Market, Lands of Origin is a true culinary treasure, offering Washington residents and visitors a uniquely flavorful experience. More than just a Bakery, this establishment is a celebrated Black-owned gem that expertly bridges the gap between Eastern European and African culinary traditions, showcasing a delightful array of pastries, savory hand-pies, and aromatic coffee culture. The shop brings the rich, diverse tastes of Africa to the Pacific Northwest, providing a refreshing and adventurous dining option in the heart of downtown.
Since opening, Lands of Origin has quickly become known for its distinctive menu, which boldly incorporates spices and recipes from various African regions, including Ethiopia, Mozambique, and Jamaica. This blend of global flavors is evident in customer reviews, which highlight the quality and authenticity of the offerings. For many, the true highlight is the shop's rendition of pastéis de nata—buttery, creamy Portuguese custard tarts that patrons claim "rival those in Portugal." These are often subtly scented with a whisper of orange blossom water, offering a unique Mozambique twist to the classic dessert.
Beyond the sweet treats, Lands of Origin provides an excellent choice for a substantial and flavorful meal. Their savory items, such as the flaky Jamaican meat pies and the crispy, vegan lentil sambusas, are perfect for a Quick visit or a satisfying lunch. The bakery's commitment to delivering a rich cultural experience extends to its Ethiopian coffee, which infuses the entire space with a cozy, inviting atmosphere. This makes it an ideal spot for a quick Breakfast or a mid-day coffee break for Market regulars and Washington-based tourists alike.
The bakery prides itself on friendly service, often offering free samples to curious customers, which creates a welcoming environment for both seasoned foodies and those looking to try something new. What is worth choosing
For any local Washingtonian exploring Pike Place Market, the must-try experience at Lands of Origin involves two non-negotiable items that perfectly encapsulate the bakery's unique identity.
First, the sweet indulgence: the pastéis de nata. This is consistently highlighted by customers as the best version they've found outside of Portugal, with a flaky, buttery crust and a creamy, slightly sweet custard that is often infused with a delicate hint of orange. It's the ideal treat to pair with a freshly brewed cup of their authentic Ethiopian Coffee.
Second, the essential savory choice: the lentil sambusas. These golden, crispy, triangular hand-pies are not only delicious but are also a hearty, satisfying, and totally vegan option. The lentil filling is flavorful and robust, but the true star is the accompanying jalapeño cilantro sauce—a bright, vibrant green sauce that adds a necessary zing to the pastry. As one customer noted, this sauce "tied it all together."
Whether you are stopping by for a quick Breakfast bite of Jamaican meat pies or seeking an adventurous and flavorful lunch with the sambusas, Lands of Origin delivers high-quality, hand-made items with an authenticity that makes this Black-owned gem a necessary stop for anyone seeking a unique and welcoming culinary experience in Seattle. The opportunity to sample the goods and enjoy the friendly, cozy service is well worth the stop.

August 13 · Tram NguWe stopped by Lands of Origins, just outside Pike Place Market on the brick-paved street, and it was such a great find! We tried something similar to a samosa—crispy, filled with lentils, totally vegan, and served with a bright, flavorful green sauce that tied it all together. For dessert, we had a pastel de nata—a classic Portuguese custard tart—and it was absolutely delicious. Great flavors and super friendly service in a charming little spot!
June 03 · Gordana DavilaFood was pretty good and tasty. The cornbread was my favorite!! It was SO moist and delicious. The pasteis de nata was really** crispy but I didn’t love the orange(?) note in the custard itself. Still devoured it though, it was really good. If you like orange, too, this would be perfect for you. Finally, the meat pie was good as well and came with a sauce to dip it in.This place is kind of expensive but it is in poor place market so I guess it’s reasonable.
August 05 · Vivian NIncredible pastries, tried almost everything and loved it all. Their twist on pasteis de nata with orange rind is excellent. Also highly recommend the shakshuka roll and the cone things.
