LBCC Bakery Introduce
California foodies and residents in the Long Beach area are always on the lookout for a fresh, high-quality bakery experience. The LBCC Bakery offers a truly unique and locally impactful option. This isn't just another storefront; it is a vital, student-run enterprise operated by the skilled and enthusiastic students of the Long Beach City College (LBCC) Culinary Arts Department.
When you choose to visit the LBCC Bakery, you’re not only treating yourself to delicious, professionally prepared baked goods, but you're also directly supporting the next generation of culinary professionals in Southern California. The bakery functions as a real-time, hands-on practicum for students in the Baking & Pastry Arts program, allowing them to gain invaluable experience in production, operations, and customer service.
Located within the vibrant Liberal Arts Campus (LAC) in Long Beach, the bakery is a public-facing part of the college's state-of-the-art culinary facilities. Its mission is to provide students with intensive, practical experience, preparing them for successful careers in retail, hotel, and resort bakery kitchens across the region and beyond. For the local community, it translates to consistently high-quality products made with passion and precision.
Introduction / Overview
The LBCC Bakery, often mentioned alongside its sister operation, the LBCC Bistro, serves as a capstone training ground for the college's Baking & Pastry Arts students. It is a functional, professional outlet where students apply the advanced skills and principles learned in courses like Artisan Breads, Specialty Cakes & French Pastries, and Advanced Bakery Operations. The retail space is where theory meets practice, offering the local public a delightful selection of sweet and savory items.
The menu is dynamic, changing with the curriculum and the specialties being mastered by the current class cohort. However, patrons can consistently expect to find a variety of expertly crafted items that go well beyond basic baked goods. This commitment to variety and excellence makes it a beloved spot for a quick, high-quality treat or a coffee break for students, faculty, and the surrounding Long Beach community.
It is crucial for local users in California to understand that because the bakery is intrinsically linked to the academic calendar, its operating hours are limited and generally follow the spring and fall semesters. It is typically closed during the summer and winter breaks when the advanced culinary classes are not in session. This schedule is a direct reflection of its purpose as an educational facility, and patrons are advised to check the college's official channels, such as their social media or website, for the most current opening days and times to avoid disappointment, as general search engine listings may not always reflect the academic schedule closures.

What is Worth Choosing
Choosing the LBCC Bakery is a choice that benefits your taste buds and the local Long Beach community. It stands out in the competitive Southern California culinary scene for several compelling reasons. Firstly, the quality of the product is exceptional, driven by the rigorous curriculum of the LBCC Culinary Arts Department. Students are trained in state-of-the-art facilities and mentored by experienced faculty, often including authentic French chefs, ensuring that the techniques used are cutting-edge and classically grounded.
Secondly, the value proposition is unmatched. You receive goods crafted with the care and attention of fine dining, but at prices that support an educational institution rather than a high-overhead commercial operation. Patrons have noted the products are "absolutely delicious" and the staff is "always friendly," highlighting a positive and professional take-out experience.
The element of supporting student success is perhaps the most rewarding part. Every croissant or coffee purchased directly contributes to the practical education of a student pursuing a career in baking and pastry arts. It is a genuine investment in the future workforce of California’s food service industry.
Finally, while the semester-based schedule requires a little planning—remember to check their current status via official channels, especially their Instagram or direct email, to confirm when they are open—the reward is a fresh, expertly made item that often surpasses what you might find at commercial bakeries. If you are in Long Beach during the academic semester and looking for a quick visit for coffee and a treat, the LBCC Bakery in Building V is an excellent choice that combines culinary excellence with community support.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Absolutely delicious baked goods, coffee, and sandwiches. They're always friendly too. Keep in mind that the bakery is run by students so it is only open during semesters when the class runs, so if you come during the summer or winter when the classes for this program aren't running, it's not going to be open. Ignorance isn't a good reason to give bad reviews. It opens again on 9/19 Mon-Fri from 9am-1pm this semester (2022) but they typically keep their Instagram updated for the latest info every semester. You can also contact them for upcoming info on their email bakery @ lbcc.edu (without the spaces) and they respond usually within 2 days, which is a pretty good turn around. We have used them to cater our events (which you can request via email) on multiple occasions, and will be doing so again.
September 08 · Taylor KliesenIt is closed for summer however Google says it's open, I was told that it will open hopefully mid SeptemberThe reason for 1 star doesn't mean bad review for taste and quality, it means that you will be relying on Instagram (if you have it at all ) also they can update on their website...be professional please.
