Loba Pastry + Coffee Introduce
Introduction / Overview
Loba Pastry + Coffee, located in the heart of the Lakeview/North Center area of Chicago, has established itself not merely as a neighborhood Bakery, but as a culinary destination for those in Illinois seeking truly unique and expertly crafted baked goods. Located at 3600 N Lincoln Ave, Loba goes far beyond the standard bakery fare, merging classic techniques with bold, unconventional flavor combinations often inspired by Latin American, particularly Mexican, heritage—a reflection of its identity as a proud Latino-owned and women-owned business, led by Chef Valeria Velazquez Lindsten.
The shop functions simultaneously as an artisan Bakery and a dedicated Coffee shop. While the pastries are the undeniable 'showstoppers,' their beverage menu is thoughtfully curated, offering a range of specialty options from a simple, high-quality Drip Coffee and Espresso Blend to innovative house creations like the Burnt Cajeta Latte and Kyoto Coldbrew. This intentional pairing ensures that every treat is accompanied by an equally exceptional cup of coffee.
What truly sets Loba apart for the discerning Illinois patron is the philosophy behind the baking. The offerings constantly rotate, ensuring customers are always "on their toes" for new creations. Staples that have garnered significant local praise include the Pineapple Sourdough Muffins, the savory and unique Cheese Kouign Amann with curry sugar, and the highly celebrated Black Mole Croissant. The commitment to catering to modern dietary needs is also a major highlight, with dedicated, delicious Gluten-Free (GF) and Vegan options available daily, proving that creativity and inclusivity can coexist in high-end pastry.
The entire experience is wrapped in a chic, Scandinavian-inspired atmosphere that, while compact, is bright and filled with sunlight, making it a perfect spot for a 'Quick visit' and a refreshing break. What is worth choosing
For patrons in Illinois, Loba Pastry + Coffee represents the pinnacle of modern, independent bakery experiences, making it unequivocally worth choosing over conventional options.
The primary reason to choose Loba is the sheer innovation and quality of the pastries. This is not a place for mass-produced, overly sweet confections; it is an artisan workshop where the menu constantly evolves. The opportunity to taste a Black Mole Croissant, a savory Curry Scone, or a sophisticated Burnt Cajeta Latte—flavors that truly "explore outside of the classic selection"—is a rare find in the local bakery landscape and is what makes Loba a subject of significant culinary discussion and praise in Chicago. This level of culinary adventure and execution, recognized even by major food critics and award panels, positions Loba as one of the best bakeries in the city.
Secondly, Loba makes a deliberate effort to be an inclusive space. The guaranteed availability of exceptional Gluten-Free and Vegan pastries allows those with dietary restrictions to participate fully in the high-end pastry experience, a thoughtful service that is highly valued. Paired with its identity as a Latino and women-owned business, a visit to Loba is a conscious choice to support a unique and diverse voice within the Illinois small business community.
Finally, the atmosphere itself is an escape. The bright, minimalist Scandinavian design creates a beautiful, calm environment perfect for enjoying your meal. While Loba encourages a social, quick-visit mindset over long hours of remote work (by limiting Wi-Fi and power outlets), this focus is precisely what ensures the space remains available for patrons primarily interested in savoring the unparalleled quality of the food and the company. For a truly memorable and inventive breakfast or coffee break in Chicago, Loba Pastry + Coffee is the destination.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Delicious pastry shop! I came on a holiday around 11:30 and waited about 30 min in line. The pastries were delicious - we had the curry scone and peach danish. The scone was really unique and the danish was really fresh and had nice cream on top that wasn’t too sweet. The drinks were nothing special, and they’re the only reason this doesn’t get a full 5 stars for food.
September 02 · Caroline McCaheyLoba Pastry + Coffee is my favorite coffee shop in Ravenswood. Lilia is the most polite and dearest lady I’ve ever been helped by at a cafe. She alone made my visit worth it. Aside from the unique flavored pastries to their special names, I really like that Loba doesn’t shy away from exploring outside of the classic selection of croissants and pastries. I am always on my toes when I walk into Loba. You never know what new creations are up the baker’s sleeve. The Scandinavian space is absolutely a showstopper. I absolutely love every small detail put into the lighting, the books and even the wavy wooden window book shelf. The only downside is the main setting is reserved for dining only, which is understandable given the high foot traffic and smaller space. In response to a harsh review, personally I think all can be more understanding, visit businesses with the right mindset for the right occasion. Laptop use is limited to the bars. No WiFi and no power outlets. Enjoy!
May 11 · EdaThis charming neighborhood bakery caught my eye because it's doing some interesting things with ingredients not typically found in baked goods. I was especially excited to try the mole croissant. We went on a Sunday around 9:30 a.m. and only had to wait about 10 minutes in line. We tried the yellow mole croissant, which was excellent and probably the most unique croissant I’ve ever had. It was perfectly flaky, with a bold amount of spice that almost became too intense, but the sweetness helped mellow it out just in time.We also tried the semolina cherry cake with fresh cream. It was very small and lacked complexity, making it fairly average overall. The portions were small considering the high prices. I would definitely go back to try the black mole croissant, but I would most likely skip the other items.
June 30 · D ArmstrongValeria and her team offer Chicago an experience of soulfulness and intention. The space is earnestly handcrafted. The pastries and breads are pushing for the same attention to detail and quality, while doing it their own way. I’ve been visiting Loba for years and I can’t imagine a Chicago culinary landscape without them.If you understand their intention, you won’t be pushing back on why they don’t want laptops in the café. It’s actually driven from a place of warmth and hospitality. Val wants people talking to another, experiencing richness of the space the pastry and one another.
August 28 · chad littleI kick myself everyday for not renting right across from Loba. This is my favorite coffee shop / bakery in chicago. You can taste the high quality ingredients in every single bite. I also love how friendly the staff is!
