With a friendly and fast-paced atmosphere, Luke’s offers a wide array of options that go far beyond what you might expect from a typical donut shop. From fresh and robust coffee to an impressive menu of breakfast sandwiches, burritos, and even lunch grinders, this spot has proven to be a one-stop-shop for many locals. This article will provide a detailed look at Luke’s Donut & Grill, covering its convenient location, the extensive list of services it offers, and the key features that make it a perfect fit for the Canton community. We will explore why this local business has been so warmly welcomed and why customers are already planning their next visit.
Luke’s Donut & Grill has a fascinating backstory rooted in community support and local business succession. When The Whole Donut, a beloved institution that had been in Canton for decades, closed its doors, a void was created for morning pastry and coffee lovers. Luke's, a local bakery from the neighboring town of Avon, stepped up to fill that space, much to the relief and gratitude of the community. This move was celebrated as a fantastic solution, as it prevented a chain from taking over and kept the business local. Since opening, Luke's has quickly won over patrons with its excellent food and welcoming environment. The donuts are consistently praised as amazing, with a wide variety to choose from, ranging from classic powdered raspberry jelly to a rich double chocolate. The coffee is noted for being fresh and robust, and the service is always described as fast and friendly. Beyond the donuts, the breakfast and lunch menus have earned high marks. The egg sandwiches, made with real chopped ham and served on soft bread, are a particular highlight. The quality of the ingredients, such as Boar's Head meats for deli items, shows a commitment to excellence that is highly valued by customers.
Luke's Donut & Grill is located at 159 Albany Turnpike, Canton, CT 06019. This address places it directly on a major thoroughfare (Route 44), making it highly accessible for both local residents and commuters. The location is key to its success, as it is a convenient stop for anyone heading to or from work, or simply running errands in the Canton area. The review mentions a gas station, and its location on a main road with "plenty of parking outside" indicates that it is an easy place to get to and park. This is a significant advantage for customers who are in a hurry or who don't want the hassle of searching for a spot. The central position within Canton ensures that the business can effectively serve a wide geographic area, drawing customers from neighboring towns as well.
The accessibility of the location, combined with the quick and friendly service, makes Luke’s Donut & Grill a practical choice for daily visits. Whether you want to grab something through a drive-thru (though a drive-thru is not explicitly mentioned, the review describes a "deli counter or bakery vibe" and fast service which implies efficiency) or sit down at one of the small tables or counter stools, the physical space is well-suited to a variety of customer needs.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- Luke's donut and grill, reminds me of Luke's Diner on Gilmore Girls, lol.I've been wanting to go there; I heard this place gets busy in the morning but haven't been at that time. I came in early afternoon on a Saturday for coffee and donuts. The coffee was pretty good; fresh and robust. And the donuts were amazing! I had the blueberry donut, my husband had the double chocolate, and my toddler had the sprinkles; we were all raving about it. There were plenty to choose from too. The service was fast and friendly; it had a deli counter or bakery vibe. They also serve sandwiches, burritos, omelette, pancakes, and grinders. There were some seating inside and plenty of parking outside. I will be back to try out their other items! May 23 · Kim V.
- March 2024 - Fans of The Whole Donut were sad to see the shop in Canton close a year ago that had been there since even local seniors were kids. The owner in his eighties, understandably told the press it was time for him to retire. He kept his first store in Enfield open until recently. To save the day, enter the owner of the local bakery "Luke's Donut Shop" in the neighboring town of Avon. There couldn't have been a better solution for morning pastry and coffee fans. A local small business most diners knew of and some had frequented, was better than a chain retail option, or worse, an empty building now shuttered. Many thanks to "Luke's" for filling this void.Stopping in to check out the menu, take some photos, chat with the owner of "Luke's" pleasant son and buy some donuts to bring home, I decided to sit down and try an egg sandwich. There are small tables and counter stools. I chose ham with mine and ordered another to go with sausage, both with cheese. The freshly made bread on what appeared to be a bagel, was as soft as warm butter. Impressive that the ham was real chopped ham from a baked ham, not a processed deli slice. Feedback on the sausage was positive in terms of quality and flavor.Aside from egg sandwiches, there are egg burritos and omelettes plus specials of the day. Luke's offers pancakes and bagels for those who don't want eggs. Coffee sold is by Omar. Good, but I'll give The Whole Donut theirs was better. Most of the donut trays were empty around noon. I took home one of the last powdered raspberry jelly and a chocolate glazed. They sell cookies and donut holes, too. There is a lunch menu consisting of a variety of sandwiches and grinders if you stop in later in the day, in addition to chicken wings or tenders, falafel and a cheeseburger. Sub fillings include egg, tuna, ham and chicken salads, a variety of Boars Head meats, eggplant, sausage and meatballs. There also are vegetarian, BLT and Philly Cheesesteak options. The drink menu has Smoothies, milkshakes, hot chocolate and tea in addition to coffee hot or iced.Open 5AM until 5PM. Check for times on holidays. Parking lot in front. For all ages. - Hmm... food is decent. Everything else about this place takes away from the taste of the food. Don't really understand what others see in this place except maybe the nostalgia factor (previously the Whole Donut and seems no renovations since it changed hands). Wasn't impressed with Avon Luke's either.... has anyone noticed that the odd (not-baking-related) smell in the store seems present in the taste of the donuts? Almost reminds me of the difference between fresh and rancid butter, though its not that either. August 07 · Joey Beaudette
- Grinder was not that great. Went today on a Sunday before closing which they usually close around 5. I don’t think I will be back, the staff were what felt to me in a rush as if they wanted to be out the door already. June 22 · Christopher Martin
- Every person I’ve interacted with is extremely friendly and seems very happy. The food is great, prices are excellent. Interior decor is dated, but who cares?!? It’s not supposed to be the ritz and certainly isn’t priced that way. I like the Philly cheese steak lunch special. 9.49 for an 8 inch sub, chips and a can of soda. Give Luke’s a try and judge for yourself. March 23 · Johnathan Nieves
