What is Worth Choosing
The true magic of Mc Garden Coffee & Bakery is in its ability to offer a great variety of delicious items without stretching your wallet. While the entire menu is worth exploring, several items stand out as essential choices for any first-time visitor in California:
The Poundcake is a must-try, available in both classic and Marble varieties. Its dense, moist, and satisfying nature makes it a perfect snack or a quick energy boost. Following closely is the Bread Pudding Slice, a beloved item for its moist texture and classic sweetness, described by one customer as "perfect."
For those who prefer Asian-style baked goods, the Pineapple Bun (often referred to as Bolo Bao) is highly recommended. Patrons praise it for being "soft enough but not too puffy," providing a more filling experience than other bakeries. Similarly, the Paper-Wrapped Sponge Cake is a simple, light, and delicious treat that perfectly encapsulates the bakery’s approach to comforting classics.
If you are visiting for a meal rather than a snack, the bakery’s sandwiches and savory items are a solid choice. The Ham and Cheese Sandwich is the most highly liked item on the featured menu. For a full breakfast, the Homefries or Pancakes served with eggs and your choice of meat offer a hearty start to your day at an exceptional price.
Finally, no trip is complete without trying their coffee. The Regular Coffee is both rich and smooth, while the unique house Coffee Blend has a nostalgic quality that makes it a popular choice. For a refreshing option, their Hot Soy Milk or the classic Hong Kong Style Milk Tea are great alternatives.
In conclusion, Mc Garden Coffee & Bakery is a true local destination in San Francisco that embodies value, flavor, and community spirit. It’s an unassuming place, but one that offers a genuinely friendly experience and delicious food at prices that are hard to beat anywhere in the Bay Area. If you are looking for a satisfying treat and a truly kind interaction, make sure to seek out this Mission Street gem.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Taste wise everything was solid, probably 4 stars. But considering price I paid, I’m giving 5 stars — wish I bought a dozen! The cashier was very friendly, the place was quite empty on Saturday afternoon. I got a pineapple bun and two paper-wrapped sponge cake— both bun and cake were pretty good: soft enough but not too puffy so they were quite filling. All three items for only $2.75. Would go back!!Con would be location, the street right outside bakery isn’t very clean so you pass by some flies as you walk in but the bakery itself was fine, all baked goods in closed spaces and not out in the open.
December 16 · S COkay, so, we were staying at a friend's place and desperately needed coffee. We decided on this place, and they had 2 beverage options. Hong Kong style milk tea and their own coffee blend. That's it. We got the coffee, and it was good! It's got a nostalgic element to it, so it's likely a blend of instant coffees, but for a couple bucks for a large cup it is perfect. I also got one of their bread puddings, and it was perfect. Here's the thing, though, the owner / man behind the counter was incredibly nice. He was attentive, he was conversational, he was friendly, and I love him. It's an unassuming place, but go here. Go here!!!
July 01 · Katherine Goussen-MakiDO NOT go to the bakery! I'm forgiving toward honest mistakes, but in two separate occasions, they messed up and straight up denied their mistakes:1. They mixed up sugar and salt in making their pastry, and so I got the saltiest cream horn I've ever tasted! Well, no big deal, people make mistake. The bad part was that when I mentioned about it to the owner's wife on my next visit, she got all defensive and denied it. Fine, this I didn't appreciate but understood...2. I went back another time and ordered a slice of one of those cakes in their front fridge. As the owner got it for me, he 'casually' mentioned, 'Oh btw, the fridge has been set a bit too cold last night, so the cake might be a bit hard.' Okay... Got cake and ready to eat. THE FORK COULD NOT GO INTO THE CAKE EVEN I PUSHED HARD!!!!!! Wth, could it really be the cold temperature? So I decided to pick up the top layer with my fingers and take a bit. Ugh, bad decision. That was basically a piece of bread left outside for a week!No more Mc Garden for me.
