I visited MeLisa the Pie Lady today with the expectation of finding sweet potato pies, but unfortunately, she doesn’t sell them. That was completely fine—the shop itself is very charming, and I appreciated the cozy, well-thought-out aesthetic. Since I was already there, I decided to try a different pie instead.Before purchasing, the lady working there made a comment that caught me off guard. She said, “You know this isn’t an area with a lot of AA people, so you won’t really find any sweet potato pies,” and she prefaced the statement by saying she didn’t mean it to sound prejudiced. At the time, I let her know I didn’t take offense. However, after reading some of the other reviews and seeing how paying customers were addressed in responses, I’m left wondering why it was even brought up. In my opinion, such remarks—regardless of intent—can be unnecessary and alienating, especially in a diverse society where inclusivity should be the standard.As for the pie I did purchase (pecan), I was honestly disappointed. It lacked flavor, the filling was underwhelming, and the crust crumbled, it split down the middle upon removing it from the plastic container. For the price, I expected much better quality.Would I return? Probably not. I do believe as well as she knows, she has a loyal customer base in that area and that her pies may be more appealing to their preferences. However, as someone in my line of work who values equity, social justice, and respectful communication in all spaces—including small businesses—this experience left me with mixed feelings. I drove pretty far to patronize the business so a replacement wouldn’t suffice, either way.Update: 6/27/25 in response to MeLisa— 1. simply take it as constructive criticism. 2. research intent vs impact. 3. This further proves my review regarding cultural insensitivity. 4. Based on your response, my review stands as is and substantiates the aforementioned concerns with your view, which alienates/excludes other cultures.

It's so awesome that MeLisa has gluten-free pies and mini pies! I called and requested the turtle crunch. She didn't have any already made, but was able to put it together in just the time it took me to drive there. It tasted delicious. 100% will be going back.

The pie lady, Melissa does an amazing job with her famous pies/desserts.When in town, we always grab one of her homemade pies. Made with love, for sure!Here for Thanksgiving and back again to enjoy her delicious pies!This time, we are taking a couple of pies home to enjoy in Washington state.

Over the years she has worked very hard to provide the best to all customers and has been a great part of the community.My favorites are the cherry, chocolate cream, chess, key lime, and pecan. If I stopped here as often as I wante; Id be both poor and fat. I love her mini pies and the variety. This is a great sweet treat instead of a cookie, Bundt cakes, or ice cream. It is a locally owned small shop and not a chain. Everyone has always been super nice and the pies are consistently awesome. My favorite is the Millionaire but they are all great and freshly made
