Newport Flower Show Introduce
For those of us in Rhode Island who cherish beauty, horticultural artistry, and the vibrant spirit of our coastal community, The Newport Flower Show is an event that has long held a special place in our calendars. While not a traditional "bakery" in the everyday sense of a brick-and-mortar shop selling bread and pastries, the Flower Show, through its various vendors and experiences, can sometimes offer delightful culinary treats, including those with a bakery-like feel. This annual event, set against the breathtaking backdrop of Rosecliff, truly embodies the elegance and charm that Newport is known for, attracting visitors from across the state and beyond.
The Newport Flower Show provides a unique experience, blending exquisite floral displays, garden exhibits, and a curated marketplace. While its primary focus is on flowers and gardening, events of this nature often feature food and beverage vendors that cater to attendees, which can include baked goods, desserts, and other refreshments. It's a gathering that allows us Rhode Islanders to immerse ourselves in a world of natural beauty and creative design, offering a refreshing escape and a chance to celebrate the artistic talents within our community. It’s important to note that the event’s offerings can vary each year, and while past shows have delighted many, recent experiences have highlighted areas where improvements are sought to enhance the visitor experience.
The Newport Flower Show is proudly held at Rosecliff, one of Newport's magnificent Gilded Age mansions. Its address is 548 Bellevue Ave, Newport, RI 02840, USA. This iconic location is not only historically significant but also provides a stunning setting for the floral displays, with its grand architecture and ocean views. Bellevue Avenue itself is famous for its collection of historic mansions, making the journey to the Flower Show a picturesque drive through one of Rhode Island's most elegant districts.
Accessibility to Rosecliff is generally straightforward for Rhode Islanders. If you're coming from northern parts of the state, major routes like Route 138 or scenic coastal roads will lead you into Newport. From southern Rhode Island, routes through Jamestown or over the Pell Bridge (Route 138) provide direct access. Once in Newport, Bellevue Avenue is a well-known thoroughfare. Parking for events at Rosecliff can sometimes be a consideration, especially during popular times, and visitors should be prepared for potential shuttle services or walking distances from designated parking areas. It's always advisable to check the official Newport Mansions website for the most current information regarding parking and transportation for the Flower Show. Signage can sometimes be an area for improvement, so having directions handy is always a good idea.
As an event, The Newport Flower Show offers a range of experiences and services, though these are centered around horticulture and the arts rather than a permanent bakery establishment. However, within this framework, there are elements that might appeal to those seeking refreshments and, potentially, baked goods.
Floral Exhibits and Displays: The core of the show features stunning arrangements, garden landscapes, and competitive floral designs from talented artists and horticulturists.
Horticulture Displays: Showcasing a variety of plants, cut flowers, and creative container gardens.
Vendor Marketplace: A dedicated area where visitors can browse and purchase garden-related items, unique gifts, and often, specialty food products. While specific bakery vendors may vary year to year, there are typically food and beverage options available within this marketplace. Past events have included various food and beverage purveyors, from coffee to savory treats.
Workshops and Demonstrations: Educational sessions on floral design, gardening techniques, and other related topics.
Special Events: The show often includes opening night parties, brunches, and other themed gatherings which may feature a broader range of catering, potentially including desserts and baked items.
The Newport Flower Show is known for several key features, though recent attendee feedback highlights areas for enhancement.
Iconic Venue: Held at Rosecliff, the show benefits from a truly magnificent and historic setting, providing a unique backdrop for the floral displays.
Artistic Floral Design: The show is a platform for incredible talent, showcasing intricate and creative floral artistry.
Curated Marketplace: The vendor area typically offers a selection of unique items, though some visitors have noted a desire for more variety and presence.
Opportunity for Inspiration: Garden enthusiasts and casual visitors alike can find inspiration for their own homes and gardens.
Community Event: It serves as a significant annual gathering for Newport and Rhode Island residents, fostering a sense of community around shared interests in beauty and horticulture.
Areas for Improvement (as noted by recent reviews): Some attendees have expressed concerns about a perceived decrease in the impressiveness of floral exhibits, fewer vendors, and issues with on-site services like shuttle reliability and gift shop hours. Cash-only policies at some vendors and lack of clear signage were also mentioned as points of frustration, indicating a need for better communication and operational efficiency.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Have been coming to the show for decades. So happy it was back at Rosecliff until we got there. Way less impressive flower exhibits not to mention the obvious lack of vendors. Almost got turned away at the door if not for a couple people having extra tickets. Haven’t had to order tickets since Covid prior to arriving after 1 hour +drive. The gift shop worker(1) “closed her drawer “ an hour before the show ended at 4. There were a number of people waiting for the shuttle around 4 , never arrived and there was no staff around to ask. There were women in a bind because they were elderly and couldn’t navigate the sidewalk including the distance to there cars. Simple signage would be nice for money that is spent getting there and something to eat or buy.Hate to see this go but improvements need to be made!
June 22 · Donna SchulzeHave attended for many years! It was always such a wonderful experience! But 2024 was so disappointing the everything was changed there use to be beautiful exhibits when you first walked in there was nothing , out back was horrible no tent to sit under, no music and 1 horrible bartender . Was sad
March 25 · Colleen PIn the past I loved attending the flower show with my family. This year took the trip from Massachusetts filled with excitement to arrive and be extremely disappointed with this years show. There were limited vendors and basic merchandise. The items could be found at Marshall’s or my local garden center. Also no food! Only one vendor and no place to sit and enjoy the one pastry vendor. In the past there were endless food vendors and seating to sit, enjoy and relax. On my way out I went to use the restroom and no toilet paper.. it was only 11am and there was no crowd so therefore the staffing was slacking. The best part was the trolly ride to the show! If it’s a journey for you I wouldn’t make the trip again !
June 23 · Mia CiccarelliTravelled from South Florida expressly to see the Palais du poulet featuring historic chickens. I had just completed a session on backyard chickens at NYBG. I can’t even express my disappointment. The installation was horrific and not worthy of a single photo. I would additionally comment the outside installation arena was pale in comparison to past years and evoked very little inspiration. Very little was memorable. On a positive note the speakers were absolutely wonderful and the inside exhibition quite lovely. Sadly when I inquired of a staff member about the band I missed seeing she said it was too expensive. A nice day but came up short this year.
June 26 · Lisa SawinI was so disappointed by this years show , It was the worse , There was no effort put into it , All I can say is what happened???
