What Is Worth Choosing
When visiting Nonno Ugo's Italian Bakery, the difficult part is deciding where to begin, as many customers attest that there is "not one bad item on the menu." However, for anyone looking to sample the bakery’s most celebrated offerings, three items stand out as essential choices, each representing a pillar of classic Italian bakery tradition.
Firstly, you must try the **Tomato Pie**. Customers are fiercely loyal to this item, with its thick, fresh-baked crust topped with marinara sauce, garlic, basil, and olive oil. The plain full sheet is perfect for gatherings, but even a half sheet is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. The key differentiator is the high-quality bread base, which lifts it far above similar versions found elsewhere.
Secondly, grab a few items from the **Bread** section. The **Italian Bread** or the **Small Italian Bread with Sesame Seeds** is a fundamental reason to visit. Described as incredibly fresh, this crusty bread with its soft interior is the perfect companion for anything from an evening meal to a classic Philly hoagie. For roll enthusiasts, the **Kaiser Rolls** and **Steak Rolls** are local favorites that often require calling ahead due to high demand.
Finally, indulge in the pastries, specifically a **Large Cannoli**. The crispy shell and sweet, creamy ricotta filling dotted with chocolate chips encapsulate the traditional Italian sweet experience. Alternatively, the **Sfogliatelle** offers a taste of more delicate Italian baking artistry. Nonno Ugo's Italian Bakery is not just a place to buy baked goods; it is a vital part of the Philadelphia experience, offering authentic, old-school quality that is unmatched by supermarket competition. For a true taste of local heritage and incredible flavor, a visit to this gem on Frankford Avenue is highly recommended.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I been going to this place since I was a little kid they are an true traditional old school Italian bakery like you would find in south Philly. Something that is missing to day is being able to go to a traditional bakery not the bakery at your supermarket like ShopRite, Acme, giant etc bakery . I highly recommend this place to anyone. The service is second to none and the pizza, cannolies, Italian bread, apple turn overs, etc are top notch and simply can't be beaten. It's the experience and the feeling you get from going to a independent local bakery that you just can't get from a supermarket bakery. You can definitely taste the difference between this and your supermarket bakery. The quality of the baked good is out of this world. Please give them a try and you won't be disappointed.
September 29 · Justin GlennonGreat little spot on Frankford Ave- they take call ahead orders for rolls, pizza, etc. If you got a large order, best to call ahead or go as early as possible because they sell out quick. The tomato pie is my favorite here, the fresh bread they bake it on really makes this one of the best in northeast.
May 13 · Jennifer CarrollHave been a customer for years . Even though we now live over sixty miles away we still travel down, everything is delicious. We especially enjoy the spinach and cheese stomboli and their square pies with either spinach or eggplant on top. Very nice people.
March 06 · Jack ClapperI like Nonno's if I'm looking for a more denser roll that can handle a stew or for dipping. Prices are decent and the pizza slices are a nice treat while you're there. These local gems are a real treat to the neighborhood. Support them.If you found this review useful, please hit the "thumbs up" icon below so that I continue post more helpful reviews. Thanks!
