What is Worth Choosing: Signature Must-Try Items
While the entire menu is crafted with care, there are a few items that have cemented Okayama Kobo's reputation among California locals and visitors. If it’s your first time, these are the treats you should prioritize to fully understand the unique allure of this Japanese cafe.
First and foremost, you must try the Salt & Butter Roll ($2.00). This is the bakery’s undisputed signature item. It represents the perfect execution of Japanese "Shio Pan" (salt bread)—a crescent-shaped roll that is wonderfully light, faintly sweet, and incredibly buttery. The secret is the butter baked into the center, which melts and lightly fries the bottom of the roll, giving it a crispy, savory contrast to the cloud-like interior. Locals often suggest arriving early, as these popular items tend to sell out quickly.
For a savory and satisfying experience, the Curry Pan ($3.25) is a highly recommended choice. This item is a traditional Japanese baked bun, typically filled with savory vegetable curry. Okayama Kobo’s version is a flavorful and filling alternative to a standard pastry, perfect for lunch or a hearty snack.
Finally, to pair with your baked good, you cannot miss the Matcha Sea Salt Coldbrew ($5.00) or the wildly popular Banana Matcha specialty latte. The Matcha Sea Salt Coldbrew offers a delightful blend of rich coffee and premium matcha with a creamy sea salt foam, providing a uniquely Californian twist on Japanese flavors. It’s the perfect, aesthetically pleasing, and highly refreshing drink to complete your gourmet Japanese bakery experience in the heart of Anaheim.

Their banana matcha 🍌🍵 was so good, and there’s a huge variety of bread and pastries 🥐🍰 to choose from. They even have dog treats 🐶🦴, which is such a cute touch! August 09 · Vanessa GonzalezThe line to order was super long, and it took ~30 minutes to get our bread and drinks, but it wasworth it! I got the viral banana cream matcha latte, and I was surprised at how much I loved it! It has this addicting banana flavor that perfectly complemented the matcha without overpowering it. The entire aesthetic of the cafe is also super adorable! From the signage outside to the graphics on the cups, every little detail really makes this cafe special. I’ll need to try the salt bread next time :)
August 05 · Angie ZhouOkayama Kobo Bakery & Cafe is absolutely worth the hype. The pastries were incredibly light and fluffy, with just the right amount of sweetness—not overpowering at all. You can really taste the quality and care in each item. Even though there was a long line, it moved quickly, and everything was well-stocked. Prices were very reasonable, especially considering how fresh and well-made everything was. It’s rare to find a bakery that nails texture and flavor like this. I’ll definitely be back—easily a five-star spot for anyone who loves Japanese-style baked goods.
July 03 · Peter FarejowiczA lot of people were outside; it always makes you wonder why.I just kept going. On my way back, there were "only" ten or so; I decided to stay to see if it was worth it or not.Yes, it does. The staff was so nice.Several choices to choose from.Everything looked so good. The price is fair; I've been to places where the price is twice as much, and they are not as good as Okayama.I would be back.
August 11 · I CSuch a cute and delightful bakery! I really enjoyed their vanilla bean custard-filled Kobo Kuma pastry, and the salt and butter roll was delicious. Also their iced lattes were so good!
