Panaderia San Miguel Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For residents seeking an authentic taste of traditional Mexican baking right here in the Twin Cities, Panaderia San Miguel stands out as a treasured local gem. Nestled along the vibrant East Lake Street in Minneapolis, this bakery is far more than just a place to grab a coffee; it is a cultural and culinary experience. As a beloved, family-owned Mexican bakery, its roots trace back to the vibrant streets of Morelos, Mexico, utilizing timeless, strict traditional recipes to craft its expansive menu of sweet breads and custom cakes.
Panaderia San Miguel specializes in pan dulce (Mexican sweet bread), which is celebrated for its irresistible flavors, comforting texture, and the palpable nostalgia it brings to the local Latinx community. The moment you step inside, you are greeted by the authentic atmosphere and the visual spectacle of dozens of different baked goods, ready for the traditional self-serve experience where customers grab a tray and a pair of tongs to select their favorites.
The bakery is particularly renowned for its exceptional cakes, most notably the moist and rich Tres Leches cake, available in over seven delightful flavors including unique options like mocha con nuez (mocha with walnut) and piña colada. They are a go-to destination for custom cakes tailored for life’s most significant celebrations, including birthdays, weddings, quinceañeras, and baptisms. While the bakery’s immense popularity and authenticity sometimes mean customers encounter communication issues or the occasional un-welcoming interaction from certain staff members—a point highlighted in some local reviews—the high quality, affordability, and sheer variety of the authentic products remain the core reason why loyal patrons keep coming back for this essential taste of Mexico.
Location and Accessibility

The address is 1623 E Lake St, Minneapolis, MN 55407, USA, making it highly accessible for residents of the Powderhorn neighborhood and those traveling along the East Lake Street area.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Extremely terrible staff. Super rude lady. We went into the bakery to place an order and the lady that did the order was Extremely rude, had a bad attitude, super short as if we were wasting her time trying to order a cake, and kept looking away when we spoke with her. We have never been there so we asked about pricing and she points to the wall and turns around. We recently called to ask if we WANTED to cancel our wedding cake if we could still get our deposit back because some places won't let you. She answered extremely rudely and said "well duh". Like if I know there policy on canceling cakes. When asked to get her name so I can inform the owner of what kind of people he has working for him she hung up the phone.Do. Not. Go. There. Unless you want to be disrespected and talked like a child to.
September 02 · nancy acostaStopped by Panaderia San Miguel on Sunday 4/6 around 9:30 AM. The place looks great, and the bread selection is solid. I was checking the softness of some loaves with the tongs when a guy came in and pretty bluntly told me not to press them—said they were all the same. He didn’t say good morning or anything, so I greeted him first, but the vibe stayed kind of cold. He answered a question I had about a pastry, rang me up, and that was it—pretty short and not super friendly. Great atmosphere, but they could definitely be a bit more welcoming.
April 06 · Cristina RomeroGosh for years this place has been my favorite bakery but after they made my wedding cake I fell in love with them all over again. I went in after being disappointed at a different bakery 2 weeks before my wedding. They not only took my order but asked in detail what flavors, how did I want it decorated, what colors, what flavors. I called the day before my wedding with questions about my cake and they answered them right away. They delivered my cake to the venue with no problems. When we cut and served the cake everyone kept saying how delicious it was. My cake was a 3-tier cake - top and bottom tiers were mocha and middle tier strawberry. It was supposed to serve 100 ppl I had around 50 guests and almost everyone got seconds and hardly had any leftovers, we sliced the cakes kind of big. Thank you San Miguel for making our wedding cake!!!
August 26 · Nayeli Gonzalez-CastilloI bought a Rosca de Reyes but the design was ugly, but otherwise the break was tasty.
