Patisserie Poupon Introduce
For decades, Maryland residents seeking a true taste of France have made a pilgrimage to Patisserie Poupon. Nestled in the heart of Baltimore City, this bakery is far more than just a place to grab a sweet treat; it is a culinary institution founded on the meticulous traditions of French pâtisserie. Since opening its doors, Patisserie Poupon has established a reputation for creating exquisite, artistically presented, and consistently high-quality baked goods, from flaky croissants to stunning, multi-layered cakes.
The essence of Patisserie Poupon lies in the vision of its founder, French-trained pastry chef Joseph Poupon. Hailing from Western France, Chef Poupon brought his classical expertise to the United States in 1974, working in New York and Washington, D.C., before realizing his dream of opening his own shop in Baltimore in June 1986, alongside his wife, Ruth. Their commitment was clear from the start: to produce authentic French pastry using traditional techniques and high-quality, fresh ingredients. The bakery's philosophy, as championed by Chef Poupon, is rooted in making everything from scratch—a demanding process that ensures the integrity and artistic precision of every product. This dedication is precisely what makes Patisserie Poupon a beloved staple for Maryland food lovers, offering a rare and genuine European bakery experience right here in our own community.
The offerings at Patisserie Poupon are a testament to the breadth of classic French baking. Their menu is thoughtfully curated, ensuring that even with high demand, the quality of each item is never compromised. Whether you are looking for a quick, delicious start to your day or a magnificent centerpiece for a special occasion, the bakery provides a selection that caters to all palates. Customers frequently praise the perfect balance of sweetness, the freshness of ingredients, and the overall sophistication of their creations. It’s this steadfast commitment to the highest standards of taste and artistic presentation that continually draws both long-time patrons and new visitors to their location on East Baltimore Street.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I've been a loyal customer to this pastry shop for a while now, often stopping by on my way to my nearby restaurant. My husband absolutely loves the pastries here, and I've made it a habit to pick some up whenever I can. But last week, I had an experience that left me deeply hurt and angry. The staff member I dealt with that day was nothing short of rude. When I politely requested additional pastries, her response was nothing short of abusive. She screamed, “What are you mad about? Did I tell you I was done?” in front of my child and other customers, completely disregarding the fact that her behavior was not only unprofessional but also deeply offensive. When i brought it up, she doubled down on her behavior instead of apologizing and then tried to offer my child some free cookies that I turned down (I am not a beggar and I can pay for anything I want). She basically called me an ANGRY BLACK WOMAN for no reason and tried to make it right with a COOKIE? Even more insulting. This wasn’t an isolated incident. From the moment I walked in, her attitude was brash and dismissive. When I asked if they had more of a specific pastry, she snapped, “What you see here is all we have,” as if I was somehow inconveniencing her with my request. Her behavior was unacceptable, and it made me feel disrespected and degraded.I feel disrespected and degraded, and I will no longer support a business that allows such toxic behavior. This incident has made me realize that I can no longer patronize this establishment. I urge others to be cautious of the treatment they may encounter here. This will be my last visit.
June 11 · tosin sabaThe best croissants in a MD!Love it! The best cakes in a city!Tarts are delicious too, especially with coffee , love this place!Thank you for your business guys!
July 01 · Nadia IsaenkoSwing by this bakery that’s been highly recommended by many friends who work at the Hopkins. My problem was that I came in the late afternoon, 90 mins before they’re closed. Therefore, they ran out of classic and almond croissants. Fine, I picked Spinach & Ricotta, Apple turnover, and Walnut danish. I did not try any of their desserts as I would like to make sure I like their pastries first before overspending if unworthy. The bakeries look very outdated and needed a makeover. This is a 100% take out bakery. No standing or seating inside. After I got home, tried the spinach & ricotta croissant, which was excellent but could be better. The layers can be improved. The next morning, I tried the walnut danish and apple turnover. They are unusually not sweet compared to the normal pasties sold from other bakeries. This is a GOOD thing but may not be the preferred sweetness level for the majority.
July 28 · Susan SuThey have PROPER pastries. Freshly made, not disgustingly sweet like the grocery store ones. I especially like the pear tart. So delicate and refreshing. Items are a bit pricey, but on par with other pastry places in the DMV area. I will definitely come here regularly to support local bakery shops like this. So hard to find authentic French pastry shops in Baltimore, gotta keep it going.
August 28 · Irene ZhouI had to write a 5 star review for the amazing customer service. I pre-ordered a surprise cake for my daughter's birthday who is currently at college in Baltimore, and the front desk of her dorm refused to accept it when she was unavailable in class. The bakery worked with me to arrange for it to be re-delivered later in the day when she was available for the delivery. She said it was delicious!!
