It’s a spot that aims to bring a bit of joy to your day, whether you're grabbing a quick bite or exploring new tastes in the heart of Newton.
Pon de Joy sets itself apart with its specialty mochi donuts, which offer a delightful chewiness that's different from traditional American donuts. Customers who have experienced their offerings often highlight specific flavors that leave a lasting impression. For instance, the "Dubai chocolate donut" is noted for being "so rich and filling," a testament to the quality and depth of flavor in their creations. This focus on unique, international-inspired flavors adds an exciting dimension to the local donut scene in Massachusetts, inviting patrons to explore tastes they might not find elsewhere.
Beyond the delicious products, many customers have experienced truly exceptional service. One review particularly highlights a "10 star worthy" service experience where the staff went above and beyond, replacing a forgotten order for free and even including an extra donut. This level of customer care speaks volumes about the establishment's dedication to ensuring customer satisfaction. The atmosphere, sometimes featuring a playful dog mascot, and the inclusion of dog treats inside and a dog bowl outside, suggest a generally welcoming and community-oriented approach, particularly for pet owners.
It is important for potential customers to be aware that while many experiences at Pon de Joy are positive, there has been an instance where a customer, identifying as Afro Hispanic, reported a deeply negative experience involving alleged discriminatory behavior from the owner regarding their dog. This customer expressed feeling disrespected and believes the situation was handled with a "double standard" based on race, stating they would not return despite being a loyal patron. While this appears to be an isolated and highly concerning report from the provided reviews, it underscores the importance of consistent, equitable treatment for all customers and their companions. Overall, Pon de Joy generally aims to offer delicious unique donuts and a friendly atmosphere to its patrons in Newton.

---For residents across Massachusetts, particularly those in and around Newton, Pon de Joy offers a distinct and often delightful donut experience that positions it as a suitable and unique local destination. While one highly concerning review regarding alleged discriminatory behavior should be noted, the overall context of available information highlights several aspects that make it appealing to many local patrons.
One of the primary draws for locals is Pon de Joy's specialization in mochi donuts. This provides a refreshing alternative to traditional donut shops, offering a unique chewy texture and often more nuanced, international-inspired flavors. For those in Massachusetts seeking to explore new culinary trends or simply desiring a different kind of sweet treat, Pon de Joy offers that novel experience right in their neighborhood. The "Dubai chocolate donut" is a testament to their ability to deliver rich and satisfying flavors, appealing to adventurous palates.
Furthermore, the bakery has shown a capacity for exceptional customer service. The reported instance where a forgotten order was replaced for free with an added bonus demonstrates a commitment to customer satisfaction that would undoubtedly foster loyalty among many patrons. This level of responsiveness and generosity creates a positive impression and encourages repeat business for those who experience it.
The dog-friendly aspect of Pon de Joy is another significant highlight for the substantial population of pet owners in Massachusetts. The presence of dog treats and a water bowl outside creates a welcoming environment for furry companions, making it a convenient stop for individuals out walking their dogs. This inclusive approach appeals directly to a specific demographic within the local community, offering an amenity not always found in similar establishments. As of 2023, approximately 65% of households in the United States own at least one pet, with dogs being the most common, indicating a large potential customer base that values such accommodations.
It is crucial for any business to ensure equitable treatment for all customers, and the serious concern raised in one review regarding alleged racial discrimination is a critical point of awareness. While this single report contradicts the general positive sentiment about service for many, it highlights the importance of consistent respectful interaction with every patron, irrespective of their background or race. According to 2023 U.S. Census Bureau estimates, Newton, MA has a population that is approximately 75.3% White, 15.6% Asian, 3.6% Black or African American, and 3.9% Hispanic or Latino, reflecting a diverse community where equitable treatment is paramount. Businesses thrive when all customers feel welcome and respected.
In conclusion, for many Massachusetts locals, Pon de Joy offers a unique and delicious mochi donut experience with generally commendable customer service and dog-friendly amenities. While it is vital for the establishment to ensure consistent and fair treatment for every customer, its core offerings of distinctive donuts and a welcoming atmosphere hold significant appeal for those seeking something different in the local dessert scene.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1So the service is 10 star worthy. I ordered the Dubai chocolate donut and forgot to pick it up the next day and I messaged them on Instagram and they were kind enough to replace it for free and they even threw in an extra donut. The Dubai chocolate donut was so rich and filling. I was not disappointed and I've been a customer at the Allston location and I'll be back to this location as well
April 23 · RafaelThis Pon de Joy is next to a Pet store and dog grooming place and the mascot of the establishment is a dog btw , lol . I have spent hundreds of dollars at this location because it’s close to my house . I have been coming here regularly. I bring my dog “ Happy Bones”Its advertised as dog friendly( and read the statistics above, lol ) . Having dog treats inside and a dog bowl outside. Part of the reason I come here as well. However after today I will never step foot in here again . If you’re Afro Hispanic the owner unfortunately has a double standard. A racist Caucasian customer gave my dog nasty looks and just didn’t like my dog “ Happy Bones” . Despite my dog “ Happy Bones” being cute as a button and well loved by everyone she comes in contact with normally. I was asked by the owner Heather in front of other customers to leave because the racist customer didn’t like my dog “ Happy Bones”. No respect for my loyalty as a regular customer or for the hundreds I spent here . If I was a Caucasian customer with a dog she totally would have handled this differently. The owners true colors and what she stands for; spoke volumes today. In retrospect I will become a regular at an establishment that appreciates me and my business.
June 24 · Alexandra Honor ArrivillagaThis tiny small store in Newton Centre serves up several variations of what is now my favorite dessert - mochi donuts. As I was never a big fan of (overly) sweet delights, I've never bothered to try them despite hearing about it until recently at an event. I was truly surprised as I didn't just take a bite BUT finished the whole thing in less than a minute (once again, a pretty big feat for someone who doesn't prefer sweet treats). It wasn't overly sweet like normal donuts and the texture is far more delightful and chewy as much as it was moist. The flavors were potent and quite addicting. I know I will now be visiting quite a bit as the price is also really decent for what you get.Wishing you the best for the rest of the year and an even better 2024! Cheers!
December 25 · Jireh HuangThank you Heather for these amazing donuts, they are totally amazing. The Dubai chocolate ones omg delish. You were right i will be back for more nd the tao tea definitely be back for both.
June 19 · E P.This is a fantastic little place to get mochi donuts and Boba / Lattes. The donuts are just so good and it’s always dead when I come by. I hope more folks discover this place and make it part of their routine, for the shop’s sake, and my continued access to these incredible donuts!
