Seven Stars Bakery holds a unique and long-standing place in the hearts of many Rhode Islanders. With multiple locations across the state, it has grown from a single cafe to a recognizable local institution, known for its artisan bread, pastries, and a wide array of coffee and other beverages. The Rumford Center location, situated in the historic Rumford Baking Powder factory building, has a particularly deep history with the community. For many, it's a place they've been visiting since childhood, a spot that has become a part of their daily routine or a cherished weekend tradition. Seven Stars Bakery aims to provide a welcoming space for locals to grab a coffee on the go, enjoy a leisurely pastry, or catch up with a friend over a delicious lunch.
The bakery's core philosophy has always revolved around quality ingredients and traditional baking methods. They pride themselves on baking everything from scratch every day, using the age-old method of long fermentation for their breads. This dedication to craft is evident in their wide selection of artisan breads, from classic baguettes and sourdough to more unique offerings like toasted walnut and raisin or Vermont cheddar cheese bread. The Rumford location, like all Seven Stars bakeries, receives daily deliveries of these freshly baked goods from their main production facility, ensuring that customers always have access to a high-quality product.
In addition to their bread, Seven Stars is well-regarded for its pastries. The selection includes buttery croissants, flaky cinnamon buns, and a variety of seasonal muffins and scones. Customers have long appreciated the consistency and quality of these treats, often citing specific favorites like their lemon cakes or ginger scones. The bakery's menu extends beyond just baked goods to include a variety of sandwiches and salads, all handcrafted with a commitment to using fresh and, when possible, locally sourced ingredients. This comprehensive menu makes Seven Stars a versatile option for any meal of the day, whether you're craving a quick breakfast, a satisfying lunch, or a sweet afternoon pick-me-up.
The location of the Rumford Seven Stars Bakery at 20 Newman Avenue in East Providence is a key part of its appeal. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- I used to love Seven Stars. I have been going to this location since elementary school when it opened and now I am in college. They used to have a great variety of drinks available and were personable. Now that they are under new ownership they have little drinks, the food quality has gone downhill and the employees are no longer personable. They also seem to be out of things all the time for weeks on end. June 17 · Wren Seccareccia
- I am a coffee lover. One of my fav space is this one. So plenty and good quality. June 18 · Jei Garcia
- You’re handed your order with a lovely and genuine smile unlike starbucks which makes the service feel personal even on your first visit. Croissants are delightful. Buttery, flaky. Pair em with their hand crafted drinks and you will have a wonderful start of the day. The ambiance is quiet making it ideal place to catch with or read and relax. May 07 · Eddie K.
- Special bakery and coffee shop! Great vibes and selection. May 31 · Rebecca Noymer Matulsky
- It was my first and last time going to this bakery. I was excited to try this place as I work near the area but was heavily disappointed with my experience.First I could see how genuine and caring the cashier was when taking the order of the people in front of me was and had pretty high hopes with this bakery, but all of sudden when it was my turn it seemed like his hospitality went out the window. He almost seemed annoyed that I was there. I took notice quickly and watched how he interacted with the people afterwards and he immediately went back to his genuine/caring hospitality. At first maybe I thought it was because I was a brand new customer and the people before and after me were regulars so he added a bit more enthusiasm? But I came to the conclusion it was not.I had ordered a matcha and ham & cheese croissant, the drink came out quickly and I waited on the side for the croissant so I wasn’t in the way. Mind you I watched the cashier already have amazing customer service for the people in front of me, I figured I just had to wait on the side so he could grab the croissant. He started taking the order of the people after me, again going above and beyond for their service and gave them everything they ordered. Meanwhile I was still waiting for my pastry. 5 - 10 mins go by and I notice he would look at me then continue doing his behind the counter work. Eventually I came up to tell him I was still waiting for the croissant and he says “oh sorry” puts it in a bag and gives it to me all within 5 seconds. So I had waited that extra time for him to “forget” my order as I watched him give excellent customer service to the people before and after me.The croissant was actually good but I won’t be back unfortunately. And I advise if you are a person of color like me be prepared to potentially have different customer service than the other customers. To be fair I was the only “minority” there in heavy street clothes while everyone else there was fairly nicely dressed Caucasians. Maybe they’re not used to my demographic but regardless the service shouldn’t be that heavily different.I can’t say for certain if that was the cashiers intention or just happened to be a one bad time experience but I just wanted to share my experience.
