Sweet Martha's Cookie Jar Introduce
Ask any Minnesotan about the food traditions of the Great Minnesota Get-Together, and before they can finish their thought, Sweet Martha’s Cookie Jar
will likely be the first thing on their lips. This is more than just a bakery; it is a full-fledged cultural phenomenon and a rite of passage for residents across the state. Since starting humbly with a small 9' x 11' stand in 1979, Sweet Martha’s has grown into the single most popular vendor at the Minnesota State Fair, with the capacity to bake a staggering three million cookies per day. Their overflowing buckets of hot, fresh, chocolate chip cookies, often paired with an all-you-can-drink milk bar, represent the pinnacle of fair food indulgence.
The success of Sweet Martha’s is rooted in a simple but powerful premise: serving oven-hot, baked-on-the-spot chocolate chip cookies using a simple, quality recipe that Martha Rossini Olson (the Sweet Martha
herself) and her team perfected over forty years ago. While the State Fair is where the legend is born anew each year, Minnesotans can now enjoy the delicious, no-preservative taste year-round by purchasing their frozen cookie dough, which is stocked in grocery stores across the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota area. This blend of seasonal spectacle and year-round convenience has cemented Sweet Martha’s as a permanent fixture in the hearts and homes of local residents.
### Location and Accessibility for the Local Crowd
Sweet Martha’s Cookie Jar is intrinsically linked to the Minnesota State Fairgrounds in Falcon Heights. They do not operate a permanent retail storefront, but rather manage large-scale, dedicated booths during the annual event.
The main address for the fairgrounds location is: 1795 W Dan Patch Ave, Falcon Heights, MN 55113, USA.
To manage the incredible demand—which sees them making up to 45,000 cookies in just 12 minutes today—Sweet Martha’s operates from multiple, highly visible locations across the fairgrounds, ensuring that no matter where you are at the fair, you are likely close to a cookie fix:
- The Main Booth: Located on the south side of Carnes Ave. between Nelson & Underwood streets.
- The Grandstand Booth: Located on the north side of West Dan Patch Ave. between Liggett & Chambers streets (the location matching the primary address provided).
- The Hill Booth: Located on the west side of Underwood St. between Murphy & Lee avenues (on Machinery Hill).
While the lines are to be expected
due to the bakery’s immense popularity, the service is known for being fast and efficient. Being located within the fairgrounds, the booths are accessible to all fair attendees.
### Services Offered
Sweet Martha’s specializes in a focused menu during the Minnesota State Fair, centered entirely around their famous cookies, though their broader business extends to year-round options:
- Takeout (Fair Season): Providing freshly baked, hot cookies served in either a cup (cone) or their famous bucket—the definitive way to enjoy them.
- Frozen Cookie Dough Sales: The original chocolate chip, along with several other varieties, is available for purchase in the frozen dessert section of local grocery stores throughout Minnesota, allowing for a
bake-at-home
experience. - All-You-Can-Drink Milk Bar: Some fair locations feature a dedicated milk bar, which is the perfect complement to the piping hot chocolate chip cookies.
- Merchandise: Offering branded merchandise like cookie jars and t-shirts, available for purchase both at the fair and online.
### Features and Highlights
Sweet Martha’s has cemented its position as a Minnesota icon through several defining characteristics that make the experience so memorable:
- The Overflowing Bucket: Their most notable feature is the giant, overflowing bucket of cookies, which has become the symbol of Minnesota State Fair food, often described as
piled on the buckets as much as possible.
- Oven-Hot and Baked on the Spot: Every cookie is baked fresh at the booth and served piping hot, providing a unique, gooey texture and aroma that cannot be replicated at home.
- Simple, Quality Ingredients: The recipe is intentionally simple—butter, sugar, flour, and chocolate chips—and their commitment to no preservatives ensures a fresh, high-quality taste.
- The
Cookie Empire
Production: With multiple booths and the capacity to produce three million cookies per day, they are a massive, smoothly run operation that manages high traffic while maintaining product quality. - Year-Round Convenience: The availability of their frozen cookie dough in local grocery stores means Minnesotans can recreate the magic of the fair in their own kitchens any day of the year.
- Unrivaled Popularity: They consistently rank as the top-selling vendor at the Minnesota State Fair, proving their status as the
Best cookies in the Midwest,
according to local patrons.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Packed as always but it’s to be expected during the state fair. Wanted to leave a review because I attempted to purchase four buckets but my card declined unfortunately, so I got three buckets and a cup instead but the person who was serving me tried their best to pile on the buckets as much as possible because I couldn’t get a fourth bucket and I just wanted to express my appreciation for them.Best cookies in the Midwest.
